About a month ago I was listening to one of George Noory's, "Coast to Coast" guests on late night Fox Radio. He claimed "that chemical corporations such as Dupont and Lilly, are the biggest money profiteers in the illegal drug trade."
"These corporations use subsidary companies based in South America to supply the drug cartel's with chemical's used to manufacture Cocaine and Meth Cyrstal".

P.S. I'm sorry again, it's not Central America, I meant South America.

In many ways, yes it's true, but I would hesitate to lump multiple illegal drugs into a group. Methamphetamines precursors were grossly unregulated for many years, and both south american and also India based subsidiaries of US companies were found to be the main contributor of the primary precursors for about 10 years. These circumstances are well documented. The problem lied in lack of understanding by these subsidiaries, lack of control of the precursors both in the US and internationally, and drug cartels taking advantage of the situation. I wouldn't hold it against the companies. There's a learning curve to these things.

Identifying and controlling a specific precursor works for some drugs. Trying to control a precursor for other drugs doesn't. For example, trying to control a precursor for cocaine would be like trying to control a product like lye; a strong base like NaOH or KOH. Good luck... I can make that stuff in my back yard. The primary ingredient for cocaine is a plant (I know most know this already, but some dont....). I think we've proven that we can't control primary ingredients in illegal drugs derived solely from plants; organically derived narcotics.

Synthetically derived narcotics like methamphetamines, methylenedioxymethamphetamines, lysergic acid diethylamide, phenylcyclohexyl-piperidine and all of their subderivatives can be controlled through limiting access (placing control over access) to specific precursors. Now the drug cooks have to figure out how to make the precursor to make the narcotic. In all the cases concerning this I'm familiar with, the precursors take industrialization to make and the production processes are typically proprietary information to one drug company or an other. Ya, it's possible at the very high end of the illegal drug spectrum, but the logistical problems of development a very expensive, combined with a very large non-mobile lab to make the precursor is terminally prohibitive.

The other half of the spin-docters brew on this is durg cooks get selective on their precursors. Red-Devil lye was one that comes to mind that we would look out for regularly. There are other brands, but Red-Devil seemed to be the cat's-meow for meth cooks. So, if they wanted to say that evil Red-Devil company is making precursors for meth, well ya. They are, but it's not the complete truth.

Don't forget the big Chinese chemical companies. They sell meth precursors by the metric ton. Mexico has intercepted something like 160 tons this year alone - all from China.
