View Full Version : YouTube tags ... a good idea or not?

One of the other forums I frequent has YouTube tags.
Usage looks like this:
bpFDHO-tqUY(you just put the bit of the YouTube URL after "v=" between the tags)
So the above code would embed this video in the thread
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpFDHO-tqUY
For the admins, here is how you do it (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?199304-How-To-Make-a-YouTube-BB-Code).

Yes... great idea.
Been wanting this for a while...
Just needs to be enabled by the Admin -
I like the idea of it...won't add much to load times, because the video doesn't start to load until you hit play...
Okay.. I have no clue how to make it bigger though... Give me a few...
you probably need to enable flash and BBC (Bulletin Board Code) in posts -

Marlin Rocks!
here's YouTube embed code-
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5f2U1LZxZWQ?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5f2U1LZxZWQ?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Let me contact the admin at another forum I frequent and find out how they did it so the video just appears in the center of hte post...
here's YouTube embed code-
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5f2U1LZxZWQ?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5f2U1LZxZWQ?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Tried it....[Bang]
Sad thing is, in the control panel,, Looks DAMN good..[Tooth]
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="<A href="http://www.youtube.com/v/qYS732zyYfU?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param">http://www.youtube.com/v/qYS732zyYfU?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qYS732zyYfU?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Give it a try,, I may not have it quite yet..
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="<A href="http://www.youtube.com/v/Fh-8yys0AbM?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param">http://www.youtube.com/v/Fh-8yys0AbM?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Fh-8yys0AbM?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
ETA: All I can seem to get is this stupid thing...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5f2U1LZxZWQ&feature=player_embedded
How did you embed it?
Did you surround the code with HTML tags?
5f2U1...layer_embedded (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5f2U1LZxZWQ&feature=player_embedded)
Works for me, I just copied the code after "v=" and put it inside the [youtube ] brackets [/ youtube] and it works.
But can anybody embed anything other than the originel? That's what I want to know... [ROFL1]

Doesn't seem to work. I tried to embed this one and got the spoon trick.

EDIT: Now it seems to be all the way broken. Marlin must be working on it right now.

Nice video MB888, I'm loving it already.
*that's not sarcastic, I quoted you and looked at what you were trying to post and am watching it now.
With most vBulliten forums pasting in the "Embed" code from you tube will display the video.
Looks like it's all working now. Nice job Marlin.
Here you go: $$$$$$$ I hope that's enough.
Then why don't it work for me? [Tooth]
I'll try again -
The embed code -
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0ABGIJwiGBc?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0ABGIJwiGBc?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
The url -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ABGIJwiGBc
D4l90WJWJ5Y&feature=topvideos
it works!
now get fit fellas.
now with HTML tags surrounding the embed code -
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0ABGIJwiGBc?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0ABGIJwiGBc?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
what are you guys pasting into the reply window? The Youtube code in [] ?
You shouldn't have to do that
Let me know, if it's not working, I'll give it a shot again tomorrow.... Brain is no longer able to deal with it.. [Tooth]
DAMMIT, I'M AN ELECTRICIAN, NOT A COMPUTER PROGRAMER... [ROFL1]
Just the part after the "v=" then put it in [ /youtube] brackets. *No spaces*
[youtube]6IbPE8l1Qqg
When you hit reply there's a thing on the right, above the smileys that says "Wrap tags around selected text"
when you click it it gives you brackets like this {youtube} {/youtube} (with [] instead of {})
then you go to a youtube vid and copy part of the URL, everything after the v and paste it in between the brackets. easy peasy.
[youtube]AAdG-qVsYCo
My first video on page one is working now as well.
that is way too much work.
Pasting in the entire YouTube embed code is what works in most vBulliten installations- I think that it has to be enabled in the Admin's cPanel, either "enable BBC" or "enable Flash".
ziiiiiiiiiing THUNK! that's a lucky SOB
Geesh,, always has to be one.....
[ROFL1]
I'll try fine tuning it tomorrow....
You've got to see this!!
<object width="640" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HyuzNP_UP4w&hl=ru_RU&feature=player_embedded&version=3"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/HyuzNP_UP4w&hl=ru_RU&feature=player_embedded&version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></embed></object>
