Looking at possibly doing a trade deal that invovles a stag arms post ban a2 with a detachable carry handle. I am a ar noob, so please excuse my lack of knowledge. Will this rifle be able to be customized like the m4's and what not, in terms of different stocks, rails, sight etc> Are they decent place to start for an AR

Stag builds a great AR- In an A2 rifle platform you wont find quite as many goo-gahs to make it "Tacti-Cool" as you will for a carbine. Most of your mechanical add ons like bolt releases, charging handles etc will interchange between the two.
An A2 will have the regular rifle buttstock and should have the heavy barrel profile in 20". You can always put a collapsible buttstock on one but it will make the balance a bit front heavy. If you do change it make sure you use a carbine buffer and spring. You have rail options available from 2 piece snap in models to true 1 piece free floaters.
The basic platform is nearly the same between the two weapons with the biggest differences the barrel length and the stocks. They both utilize a nearly identical lower reciever and a true A2 will have a fixed carrying handle upper reciever.
Flat top uppers are usually considered the way to go as it really opens up options on optics choices.
You have a great start for a long range rifle with an A2 and they can be scary accurate.
If you pick it up and have questions PM me- You can slide by and I will walk you through the basics for a couple of Pepsi's.

But if you get one, you will want more[Muaha]

Never a truer statement.

Unless you are buying a National Match rifle to shoot at matches I tell people to skip the A2 and get a flat top. If this rifle has a removable carry handle you should be happy.
