(you software guys might get the reference to the title)

So, my buddy took me shooting a month ago. What a jerk. Now my wife hates him.

I took about a 20 year hiatus from shooting (former Army; good god... has it been that long?). Now I'm hooked. It doesn't help that my neighbor (another jerk) is a heavy shooter who keeps egging me on ;).

Anyway, a month later and I'm the proud owner of a Colt AR-15 .22LR, and the proud owner of a nice shiny Beretta PX4 9mm! Woot!

The truly funny thing is that I'm married to a die-hard Democrat that's totally against people owning guns and all for gun control laws. [ROFL1] I can't wait to tell her when I get my CCW [Twist]

Anyway, that's my story. As my friends and neighbors continue, I'm sure I'll add more to my arsenal (kept, of course, in my neighbors gun safe). At one point I honestly thought that the Colt 22LR would keep me happy. Man was I wrong. Black guns... here I come!

Later!

Welcome to the site.

WOW! What a shot it must have been for your wife. While recreational shooting can be an exciting hobby, being a firearms owner and having the ability to protect ones self really is a personal responsiblity.

With the Supreme Court ruling in cases like Castle Rock vs Gonzales (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Rock_v._Gonzales)that our the police have no legal obligation to provide protection to individuals, but to society as a whole, and knowing that even if they did have the obligation, with cutbacks, etc. when seconds count, the Police are typically only minutes away [NOTE: This is NOT meant to be offensive to LEO's. I'm just pointing out that LEO's can't be everywhere at once], it is up to YOU to protect yourself.

The first thing you need to do is ease her into firearms. Get her to the range (even buy her a .22 handgun of her own - their cheap & fun to shoot and won't overwhelm a newbie.)!

Welcome and good luck with the marriage! I wonder how many other guys here are in the same boat?

Mine would have voted for Obama, if she could vote. She doesn't mind guns though and would feel uncomfortable if we didn't have any.

Ya, I keep thinking "education is the key." We'll see. For now, everything is banished to my neighbors gun safe. At least she'll be happy ;).

It's not for lack of trying, but no, we don't.

I'm pretty sure she thinks the guns are going to spontaneously revolt and commit murder-suicide on every living thing in the house. It's bad enough that the guns are going to harm us, but nothing's worse than gun-on-gun violence.

Hey... you never know!

Welcome! Sounds like quite the situation you have there. Good luck!

I also see you've already acquired an understanding of the Black Rifle Disease. Guns in general will do that to you, too, but something about AR's makes it worse. I started with a Colt HBAR A2, and that was okay for a while but then I got a varmint AR, and then I needed a carbine, and then I found an AR pistol I had to have, and then I needed a .458 SOCOM AR carbine, and......well, you get the picture.

I don't think there's a cure for it, but it sure is fun![Beer]

Welcome to the forums !

I can totally sympathize with you on the subject of having a significant other that is anti gun, I was engaged to a guy like that for 6 years and he was a vegan to boot ! Hopefully she'll come around though =)
