Hey all; so I took my Bulg. Makarov out for some more fun today and noticed that after 100 rounds or so, inserting a fresh magazine caused the slide to release by itself.[Bang]
My first reaction was WTF? My second one was to drop the mag, clear, reload the 1 loose round, and try again. Sometimes it happened, sometimes not.
For an unscientific test, I tried both mags after I noticed it. First I gently clicked the mags in with no probs, then I slapped them in with a 50/50 rate of occurrence. This happened with both Brown Bear steel cased and S&B brass cased. I noticed that I was sometimes hitting the heel mag release when slapping in.
My question to all the Mak owners/smiths is this: Does it come down to an excessively dirty [insert part here], or is the heel mag release twitching the sear and (by extension) the slide stop lever just enough to release? Or something else that I wouldn't have thought of? Has anyone else experienced this and found the reason/solution?
