View Full Version : Chile mine rescue
watching it live right now. got sick of the incessant jabbering of larry king so I switched to CNN.com, they have a live raw feed from the bottom and top of the mine. knowing spanish helps a lot~
the video of the first guy out is great, very touching. When the collapse first happened I figured those guys were gonners and it'd be a miracle if they survived. now it looks like they'll pull it off. two out so far.
VIVA CHILE MIERDA!

It was very cool. I watched on BBC.com which was cool cause the reporter spoke Spanish too so he could do fast translating and what not. News reports are saying that over 1 billion worldwide watched it. How awesome is that? 1/6th of the world's population was doing the same thing at the exact same time.

With all the negative news days in days out... its very refreshing to hear the great outcome out of this one.
I had to search through the channels just to figure out where CNN was. I've been hearing about this for weeks. Glad to see if finally happen.
Big thumbs up for those guys.

It is refreshing to see a good outcome from what have historically been tragedies.
Good for them and those that have worked hard to help them see the light of day again.[Beer]

It's certainly refreshing to see some good news for a change. BUT with that said right after I watched the rescue the news comes back on with a Mexican authority being beheaded that's involved with the jet skier killed. Good news day didn't last long- [Bang]
They are getting faster in their efforts.
Someone posted on another forum about now the worries of their long term mental health.
I replied they are not American so I think they can handle it,,,LOL...
now they're almost halfway done

really cool stuff this morning. That would be one of those things I would kill to be at (as a photographer), because that's really once in a lifetime stuff
When will Obama try to steal the show?

Instead of black lung, they would get chili lung. It would make everything slightly burn in a delicious way when you breathed

I was thinking those were pretty cool shades, I'll have to get some. But I didn't know they were that expensive, the commentator I heard said 150 not 450.
EDIT: they were given radars, $180

actually i thought the original story was the company they were working for abandoned them because they were not insured for this type of accident and they said they could not afford to rescue them.
then Chilean gov't put the gov't mining equipment and resources into the rescue.
it is an unbelievable testament to human know how and fortitude. the one guy was said to have been running 10 km per day inside the mine. just to stay in shape.

The last one is NOT out; there are still rescue workers (the unknown) to be "rescued."
I cheered!
One of the commentators compared this to apollo 13, and he's right. This is really unprecedented, historic. like flight 1549, this type of survival just doesn't happen. It's fucking amazing. Un momento unico de pura vida.
I've got to get into broadcasting, I can talk spanish lots better than the bilingual reporters they had on cnn on fox.
Don't know bout that course the news is what it is.
