New York (CNN) -- A handful of states with weak gun laws are the largest contributors to the U.S. market for illegally trafficked guns. That's the alarming finding of "Trace the Guns: The Link Between Gun Laws and Interstate Gun Trafficking," a new groundbreaking report issued by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a coalition of more than 500 mayors that I co-chair with Boston Mayor Thomas Menino.

"Trace the Guns" examines troves of new data released to Mayors Against Illegal Guns by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and for the first time demonstrates the connection between laws designed to deter illegal trafficking and lower export rates for guns used in crimes.

Mississippi, West Virginia, Kentucky, Alaska, Alabama, South Carolina, Virginia, Indiana, Nevada and Georgia were the 10 states that supplied guns used in crimes at the highest rates -- each of them supplying such guns at a rate more than twice the national average.

You gotta love Editorial piece like this. No specific numbers nor fact checks. If they think by increasing gun control in 'lack of gun law' state will help decreasing gun crimes in stricter States, I would argue if those stricter States would relax their law, people would be able to defend themselves and deter gun crime from happening.

The highest gun crime rate States are also the strictest States.... HELLO???

Now don't get me wrong, I am not a criminal and have absolutely no intent of jeopardizing my future with criminal activities.
USING common logic, if I wanted to "appropriate" Firearms by less than legal means... Chicago, during the daytime.
Cant carry em. means you left them at home. Probably by the bed.

never pulled a heist or burglary in my life and I Have it all figured out. Imagine what the REAL Criminals are thinking.

Mayors Against Illegal Guns.
FYI- the illustrious Mayor of Denver who wants to be the Governor, John Hickenlooper is a charter member of Bloombergs branch of the Brady Bunch.

Is it bad to wish that some of these folks would be raped/mugged/whatever so they understand the fear and distraught helpless feelings... so they know what their constitutents face on a daily basis in some areas... so sad.

If they didn't outlaw the guns in their communities, this "problem" would not exist. They wouldn't lead the nation in crime either.

So lets see, get rid of the draconian guns laws, have safer streets and save a few million bucks by not having to spend money on persecution of gun owners and holding mayor conferences on stupid laws.

Gee, that was hard to figure out.

Not likely when they are surrounded at all times by ARMED bodygaurds.

gang violence would not exist if people in the neighborhood could kill them without fear of prosecution.

They'd still have to fear retaliation from the gangs. That might be neither here nor there though.

If everybody was armed, gangs would be the ones worried about retaliation.

Ken - great thread. You and I both know that no matter what happens to them they'll never believe that the removal of guns from honest citizens hands is what's putting them and everyone else at risk. They fail to accept that we will always have crimes of violence until evil is completely removed from the hearts of mankind - which will never happen. They refuse to see how violent crime has increased since their laws went into place and won't accept the real world examples of places like the U.K. and Austrialia to prove that eliminating guns only causes MORE problems with violent crimes.

Yeah, the Rosey O'Donnell mentality: "Guns are very bad and nobody should have guns; except MY bodyguards."

As a resident of WV I'm glad we're on the easy to get firearms list.

If Bloomberg's residents would stop breaking the law then they wouldn't get our firearms to begin with. Get rid of the criminals not the guns.

You didn't realize I had your grandpappy buy some gun fifty years ago just so I could buy it from you now so I could go commit a crime? You must be dull

/sarcasm

The mentality of some of these folks is really stunning, "Git ridda dem gunz and ther be liek no murder no more". Forget just the rising violence in gun free zones and cities how about the thousands of years of human history where we were, believe it or not, killing other humans with anything we could.

What bugs me is the fact that many morons will read this lame report or listen to news media and its bias and cry out for tightening the laws.

To really fix all the problems we have, we'll have to kill the stupid people.[AR15][Help]

Actually... w/o common sense, the stupid will kill each other. It's happening in Chicago, Detroit, Wash DC where the majority (stupid) voted to outlaw legal gun thinking the bad guys will obey such thing.

I didnt realize Nevada had a lack of laws? At least in Clark county we had basically the same checks as here, but also a wait on your first purchase.

Gun laws are such BS!!!
