View Full Version : Colorado Springs Zombie Match
On the 30th of Oct Whistling Pines Gun Club will host a 2-3 stage Zombie Match.
Targets will be Zombies. Scoring will be time based like IDPA/ICORE.
All USPSA/IPSC/IDPA safety rules will apply.
Set up will start at 4:30 and the shooting will start no later than 6:30.
$15.
No different equipment divisions. We will note who shot what type of gun, but for overall placement it is one big division/class. After all, Zombies dont care if you had a scope or a 32 round mag, ect.
Here is how it will work.
Only headshots will completely neutralize all zombies. However.... some calibers dont do as good of a job as others.
10mm, 44 mag and 45 ACP. One shot to the head is enough.
357 Sig, 357 magnum and 40 S&W. One shot to the body and one to the head is enough.
9x19, 38 Special and 22s. Two to the body and one to the head will work.
The lights will be turned down, not enough to need night sights or a flashlight, but enough to make you work at it.
See you there.
Now that sounds fun! But darnit, I'm blowin' all my ammo this weekend...
"Hey wifey, do you really need that new hair curler?!!!" HAHA.
That is AWESOME!!! I am in for sure [Muaha]

So, if I show up with a full auto, beltfed .22, that's OK?

If you can draw it from a holster, heck yeah its ok.

You can use my Beretta :)
For a true zombie stage you need to have more zombies than you have bullets........ Thats what always happens in the movies [UZI]

Then how many times do we have to stab the target before it's down or do we cut it's head off? If so, is there a maximum length on blades (swords? machetes?) or power tools (chainsaws?)
Chainsaws. I had not thought of that. Now that could be fun.
We did have a shooter break out his bayonet at a rifle match a few months back...

Don't you remember Rule #2 the double tap? One shot is no good!
This sounds like a blast, I wish I could go but will be practicing killing money in Vegas. Have fun!

I've run out of bullets on a single stage before. It was uh.....really really hard.

You have to be kidding me... After I leave. Damn this.
Sounds like fun.
I miss you guys already.
If you can draw it from a holster, heck yeah its ok.
how awesome would it be to show up with 2 Serbu Shorties...
What about adding another twist to it..... Everyone is limited to a total number of rounds on them at the start of the stage and all rounds must be shot before the stage is over? That would fulfill a shoot all of your ammo requirement. A stage that required 25 rounds to engage all of the targets target but you have everyone put 40 rounds of them would be entertaining as hell to watch [Muaha]

Define "holster".......
Man this sounds like it would be a blast. I just wish I didn't live 3 1/2 hours a way. I hope you guys have a lot of fun.

Define "holster".......Yeah, cause I,ll stuff my Uzi into SOMETHING.
Define "holster".......
If I have to define it, chances are pretty good you are not going to like my answer.
If you can use it at an IPSC/USPSA, IDPA or Steel Challenge match, it is fine.
This sounds like so much fun!! Maybe next year I'll be ready for it. By then, I'm sure I'll have my Trijicon on my Colt M4-22 [ROFL1]

Ok so a couple more questions....
What are minimum round counts and/or how many rounds do you recommend we bring? I know it depends on how well you shoot and what you are shooting but what would be minimum round count for .45?
Also are these zombieland zombies or 28 days later zombies? Cause there is a BIG difference lol.... Zombieland you gotta out run them and they come flying at you.... 28 days later zombies they just stand there.......
Is there a cap on ppl or is it open numbers?
ShooterChick> The below video is from a USPSA match at the Whistling Pines Gun Club. This gives a good example of the kind of stages and shooting can be done at this range.

As for the round counts and what not the stages are usually between 20 - 26 rounds. But I don't know what kind of round count Hoser has in mind for this special match. If you plan on bringing at least 100 rounds you should be safe.
I have never seen them cap the entries for the regular matches but they usually don't get more than 30 shooters. The more shooters there are the less stages we can shoot due to time limitations.
Hopefully this helps answer some of your questions. If not I am sure that Hoser can answer all of your questions.
Can we sign up and pay at the range a couple of days prior to the shoot?
Someone please take pics of this!!!

I would have to say no. For the reason if you don't show up, now the owner has to do a refund, and its a pretty lengthy process for them.
If anyone is coming for this match and you have not shot an IDPA, ICORE, IPSC or Steel Challenge match, please be there by 4:00 for a quick class on how things work at an "Action pistol" match.
It is required and not optional.
And sorry for the delay posting this, I was out of town and was not checking email or anything. It was kinda nice actually.

The board just isn't the same when you're not around.

If you can find a holster for it...
There are no classes or divisions for the match. Just a straight up shootin' match. Pick your poison.

Approximately how many zombies per stage?
Approximately how many zombies per stage?
All of them.
I would guess no more than 10-12. Trying to take it easy on the other than 45 ACP shooters.
However we have not started setting up yet. Things may change.
Its on like Donkey Kong tonight. Three from "Up North" are coming down to do some Zombie blasting. I am bringing 300 rounds of ammo........ You can never have too many bullets when Zombies are involved [Driveby2]
42 people made it out last night. With that many people it took a little longer than we had wanted, but everyone seemed to have a good time and learned a lot about low light shooting.
eerw was taking pics, hopefully he will be able to get some posted.
Lots of people helped out to make the match a success. Thanks a ton, we could not do it without you.
See you all again Oct 30.
Got a chance to stop by and see the festivities.. looked like a good crowd there..
Here are a couple of photos from the match
