View Full Version : Who is carving a pumpkin this year?

Irving

I went out and got my daughter a big pumpkin today. We've carved one before but she was too young to remember.

Anyway, I ran into this one some where and I am going to steal the idea and try to carve it. I already have the drawing. Wish me luck, I suck at all things art.

DO we have to politicize EVERYTHING??
Cant we just have a good ole' Halloween for the kids.

How about a Pot Leaf over the baby Jesus this Dec.
Just carve a Jack-O-Lantern.

What's political about this pumpkin?

I already drew my baby onto our pumpkin. Mine has devil horns though. [Muaha]

We always carved them. It was especially fun when the kids were young and we all would carve our own and vote on the best.

Here are the pictures I've taken of the steps I've completed. I can't believe how well it has turned out so far. I hope I can get the relief depths right. The last time I carved a relief was in 7th grade and it didn't have to be back lit.

What a sad day and age we live in when the image of a baby in the womb is automatically considered political. [Shake]

I did the killer pumpkin last year. Where you carve one in a face and stack it on two others so it looks like a snow man. give it some arms with a fake knife. and then you smash another pumpkin around that one as a victim looked cool although not my idea.

Not a pumpkin story, but when i lived in kentucky i had a big kennel, and i mean big, that i dragged into the front yard and made some fake blood with corn syrup and red dye, put my dogs in it with some fake bones and smeared the blood over the dogs, and turned the strobe on them.

I love halloween.

And one more to illustrate how deep I had to carve it to get the candle light to show through well.

Awesome. Creepy too, but awesome. Looks like your kiddo is having fun and that's what halloween is all about. Mine just turned 5 and I got two pumpkins. It'll be the first year carving jack-o-lanterns. I got a short, fat one and a tall, skinny one so it'll be interesting. I'll probably end up calling them Laurel & Hardy.

Nice job Stuart. Turned out nice! What's the next one going to be? You know you can't stop there. And are you going to be roasting your pumpkin seeds? <<< Best part about Halloween.

You got a nice 5-axis to get all the contours on just perfect?

so what is more political, the pumpkin or the fact that he is carving the pumpkin with a loaded magazine on the table. [ROFL1]

did you carve the pumpkin or shoot it?

I've got a 4th axis, not CNC

I wasn't saying it was practical, just that the thought occurred to me [ROFL1]

I was wondering if he gave them to his kids to play with. Don't worry Stu, your secret's safe with me when Barry ratifies the UN convention on child rights.

Well, my pumpkin is dead. Left it outside where it would be cooler and squirrels ate it. Glad I got pictures when I did. I baked the seeds tonight, but they are WAY salty.

Registration is going on now, check in begins at 11am and shooting begins at 12 pm. They would like as many as possible to register early so they can have an idea how many pumpkins needed(they usually have a big trailer, not much chance of running out). Can still register the day of the event.

12 AM must be typo.

Geeze, you want to borrow my airsoft riffle. Doesn't kill them but they get the message.

Irving

Thanks Ron, but it's okay. I feed the squirrels usually. I pretty much expect pumpkins to only last mere days after I carve them anyway. I gave a chunk to my fish.

Used black paint on the inside and some black wash on the outside to set off the detail.

Not at all.

I did that same carving several years ago. Given that it's my "logo" (use it most of the time for my avatar, have it painted on all of my ammo cans, etc.) I must endorse the choice 100%. You make Mandalore proud!

Yea, it was about a 50lb pumpkin. The inside walls were about 2.5" thick and I scraped them down to about .5"

Irving
11-01-2010, 21:17
Yeah, for sure easier to scrape out the inside than the outside.
