A friend of mine sent these to me, thought I'd share. The plane is an FA-22 Raptor.

I thought the U.S. scrapped the Raptor program in the military budget cuts? Good to see the ones that are built are getting used.

OMG, it's a UFO!!! Nope... Just our boys kickin' butt!! I love jets, though I'm particular to whirly birds.

Here's all the details, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_Martin_F-22_Raptor#End_of_procurement_and_production

The short story is the battle was over to produce an additional 4 to 12 aircraft; DefSec Gates and JCOS members preferred funding up the newer multi-role multi-service F-35. The US has/will produce 187 F-22 Raptors.

... which is ridiculous - considering that F-35 overrun cost has put F-35 price tag above F-22 fly out price.

The production line is supposed to run until 2012 - hopefully we'll have new POTUS with some brain then.

Sick!! Great video.

I must admit that I don't know my jets all that well. About once a month a couple F somethin' fighter style jets will scream down the runway at Centennial Airport. They're so insanely loud and fast. I don't even think I could come close to accurately imagining taking a ride in one until I actually did it. It's a "someday" goal for me. I imagine it'd be quite the rush. Anybody ever have the opportunity?

Think aircraft carrier and fitting in it.

Aircraft Carriers equal global domination in military matters. I'm ok with the bigger bill.

I can't find facts that support your statement:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_Martin_F-35_Lightning_II
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_Martin_F-22_Raptor

The reality, of course, is the cost is directly and inversely tied to the number of units produced. Still looks like the F-35, which is a decade newer design, is roughly 2/3rds the cost of the F-22. The F-35 also gains the same benefits the M-16 did, in being used by multiple militaries/branches the production run will larger. It reduces ongoing maintenance cost.

Don't get me wrong, the F-22 is a fine Gen5 air superiority fighter, the best publicly acknowledged in the world. But I think the F-35 will get us a lot better bang for the buck, much like the F-16 has compared the the F-15 (pre (A)F-15E Strike Eagle).
