I need some help!!

I was setting up a new website for myself, and doing ok with it, slow going none the less. My host is Godaddy, and when I called them for some help they suggested that I switch from my Windows server to a Linux server and assured me that nothing would change from it, and that I would have better success manipulating things. So on there suggestion I switched, well.....now the site is gone....

Can anyone assist me with this on getting things squared away? They keep telling me I need to change the configure.php file, but unfortunately I dont know enough about this to know what that file is supposed to look like and what should/shouldnt be there.

Any and all help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Your best bet is going to be a member here who also hosts at godaddy and is familiar with the processes and tools you have to work with.

Everyone else would have to start with a) how do you log in b) what tools do you have c) what does the configure.php contain, etc.

We'll get you squared away.

With that said, and waiting for a godaddyer to wander in, I will GUESS that what they're referring to in the configure.php where "nothing would change" is the pathname on their disk to your website area, which would be different between Windows and Linux systems, but then why would they not have you chrooted, and ... well, it'll be easier if someone already dealing with the godaddy setup takes the wheel.

Thanks for the info, as I am on a very tight budget that is why I was trying to do this all myself. I was doing "ok" with it up to this point. I am willing to offer some form of payment or trade if someone can help me out with this. I just need some real direction on this.

I am not stupid, just incredibly ignorant to all of this, so I can bring my computer with me to someone and have them walk me through all of this.

Thanks

Sp - I'm a long drive if you want to bring a computer over, but I could probably fix it remote. Sounds like you may already have help though. I do have experience with most of the major hosts, haven't ever converted windows --> linux on godaddy servers but I have run linux on their systems before. Few there, few 1and1, few of my own, few at hosts I don't even remember.

Unless you really do want to drive five hours to shoot a 10mm again [Coffee]

Thanks for the generous offer pal!! I just talked to enthusiast and he is hooking me up(fingers crossed)!! I will post back as to how things turn out, and then hopefully be able to launch my new site soon.

Thanks
