I am at work and only caught a few seconds of it on the news so I am lost but they were saying Remington is having safety issues? We were in between BS work videos so sorry if it is also BS or has been discussed but I didnt see a thread on it.

looks like (abbreviated version) really old problem, some small amount of 700s have fired without trigger being pulled. killing some people. injuring some. making holes in things. (dont point the gun at anything or anyone you dont want to put a hole in) they have been fixing them for years. it is not new news. its really old news, that the media is digging up, so conservatives forget to vote agains the libs. (ok that part is maybe not true)
quick reading, says, some maintenance issues, neglect, poor trigger jobs. user error. and maybe a problem with the gun. but who will ever know conclusively.
i had a 222 of a friends for a while that was adjusted so low that when you put the bolt forward it went off about half the time. he is a gunsmith who kept pushing the trigger lower and lower. and too low. if something can kill you or someone else, you need to pay some extra attention.

I caught a couple seconds of it this morning. The full special is on CNBC tonight @ 7:00 pm and is titled "Remington Under Fire".

The culmination of a 10 month investigation. "though a trail of death and serious injury dating back decades" and "Remington has been aware of this concern for almost 60 years.", they say. And suddenly this is a problem that needs attention? I think HBARleatherneck may have hit closer to home than he thinks with the timing thing. Sounds to me like BASIC GUN SAFETY would have taken care of nearly all, if not all, of these. Hmmmm....DON'T POINT A GUN AT ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO SHOOT (Or destroy) comes to mind. TREAT ALL GUNS AS IF THEY ARE LOADED, too.....

I kind of thought the same thing, this close to election time and the libs are trying everything they can to gain ground. Just wanted to see if it was anything worth checking on. Thanks guys.
Just read the article. I want my 3 minutes back. There was a whole lot of innuendo and little to no fact. I guess beating on Toyota isn't fun anymore, so there needs to be another made up scandal.
I have read many different tech boards, reviews and other media on Remington 700s (other firearms too). I am no expert but did quite a bit of research. This is the first I've heard of these issues. I'd think with all the experts and arm chair mercenaries on the web, that if this was a problem, it would have been public knowlege.

Wasn't the problem that if the trigger was pulled while the safety was on, it was prone to discharge when the safety was taken off?
I collect some milsurp rifles and have seen it in a couple of Lee Enfields but haven't really checked all of my guns. I tend to not trust safeties and don't keep a round in the chamber unless its a carry gun or I'm at the range shooting it.
