Is it illegal to saw off just the stock of a rifle? I'd imagine its not since they sell Mossbergs with just pistol grips, but I didn't know if there is some dumb law about making them your self.
I'm just talking about sawing the stock not the barrel.
"these are the things I think about when the power is out"
I think you have to maintain an overall length of 26". I'm trying to think if there is something with a weapon with a rifled barrel vs a pistol gripped shotgun (smooth bore) but I can't remember. I think Hoser and some others will probably know off the top of their head.

As long as the barrel (of a rifle) is at least 16" long, and the overall length is at least 26" long, you're good to go.
For shotguns, 18" min. barrel and 26" minimum overall are the required measurements.
Circuits, what is the difference between an SBR and a "Weapon Made From a Rifle?" Is the later if you cut both the barrel and the stock?

How about just GO BUY a pistol grip?
Then you can just change it back.
Now go try to figure out how to weld that 6 inches of barrel you chopped off last night back on[Tooth]
