I do like the mention of the CO (R). NPR still claims to be unbiased. I do agree though it will in the end help their fund raising because the libs will step up and send more money to make it look like it was a good firing. I would like to see the fed funding cut though, I will never listen to them.

It was all over the news the last couple days. I dont care if they fired the guy but for those comments? Last time I flew commercial in the Army they changed my seat to the front row middle seat because of 3 muslim men on the plane. I have heard worse commments form higher up elected officials.

There is no justification for public funding the NPR. Defund them. They are a joke.

It is a weak excuse to fire someone. If you don't like them, just get rid of them. I've had something similar happen to me, and it is lame to say the least.

Many conservatives have seized on his firing to resurrect their war against public broadcasting. My opinion is that these right wing thugs are using heavy handed right wing totalitarian tactics such as Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin to jackboot and stifle our freedom of democracy here in the United States!
Ms Schiller of NPR said his contract was terminated, she said, because "he had several times in the past violated our news code of ethics with things he had said on other peoples air."
On one such ocasion last year Mr. Williams said on Fox that Michelle Obama has " got this ' Stokely Carmichael in a designer dress' thing going," an allusion to a leader of the black power movement of the 1960's.
In each instance , Ms. Shiller said, "We called him on it, we had a discussion, we asked him not to do it again." NPR's ethics code states that journalists "should not express views" in other outlets, like TV shows, that "they would not air in their role as an NPR journalist." This is not a First Amendment issue."
NPR gets no direct money from the federal government for its $161.8 million annual budget. It does receive some dedicated grants from Corporation for Public Broadcasting for projects like covering the country's economic crisis; in fiscal years 2009 and 2010 combined, those grants totaled $5.2 million. NPR also gets ocasional grants from groups like the National Endowment for the Arts. In all, NPR said the occasional grants accounted for 1 to 2 percent of its income on average.
The biggest portion - 41 percent - of NPR's revenue comes from member station programing fees and dues. Those stations themselves recieve $90 million in federal funds each year. On average, that accounts for about 10 percent of the stations income, according to NPR.
The remainder of NPR's revenue comes from sponsors and, to a lesser extent, foundations, non-federal grants and investments.

Long live PBS and the NPR!

In the USA, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Few are entitled to be paid for their opinion. Almost no one is entitled to be paid by my taxes for their opinion.

If NPR needs federal tax money, how many other broadcast/media outlets need federal tax money? Have another fundraiser or sell commercials like everyone else.

Because no one is paying me for my opinion, I will freely express myself. I believe in less money taken by the federal government for politicians to spread around among the cause of the day, right or left. If you want something, you pay for it. If we want something, we pay for it. If they want something, they pay for it.

how about this- as long as gov't is spending any money on this scatology, I will vote for every bill that comes by to cut gov't spending, no matter how drastic... To start with, next week I shall vote for 60,61 & 101 to cripple funding of CO state gov't... [Rant1]

one side or the other, gov't does not belong in the broadcasting business...

There was a story on NPR today about guns used in crimes being tracked back to the selling dealers. They said that one dealer had 13% of its guns collected by police in local crimes. They said it was a slice of their total sales, but it seemed pretty high to me.
