Planning my SPR build, and here is where I stand on the upper. I'm stuck between a complete BMC MK12 upper with the DD14 handguard, or building the upper myself with a VLTOR VIS-3. I don't know a great deal about the VLTOR, but from what I understand, it sounds like a good way to go with the monolithic upper. Thoughts would be appreciated from those with experience.
Edited to add: I discovered that BCM offers the VIS upper as one of their MK 12 upper options. Now, I have to decide between the DD or the VIS. Then, if I go VIS, I have to decide between BCM and Noveske! Good thing I've got 4 months to decide!
Yes and Yes .. you really can't go wrong with any or all of what you've noted. If you're hot to trot on a single monolithic rail well the VIS is the only decent option. But the DD rails create the monolithic rail anyway. At this point, I'd say go with the more cost effective one then spend the difference on either ammo or glass.

I just completed a build with the VLTOR VIS 3 for a customer in 6.5 Grendel. Nice stuff to be sure and easy to work with and very straightforeward assembley, I only had one small spot to modify. Very accurate and for being fully railed the weight is not bad.
I will try to post a pic later.
Weight would be my concern with the VIS would weight...Below is the base weights without barrel, optics, sights or other gadgets.. pretty damn stout I'm sure.. but yikes.
With lower handguard and forward assist unit.
VIS-1 (carbine) - 21.5oz
VIS-2 (midlength) - 25.0oz
VIS-2A (ext midlength) - 26.0oz
VIS-3 (rifle) - 29.0oz
you might check with RARGUNS on the vltor upper or BCM there are some good deals currently that he can't really post prices might help with your choice if the price is right! or kill you cause its not 4 months yet!
only reason why i know is cause i bougth a rail system i had my eye on!
