Well after many years my Dad finally let me go Elk hunting with him, he's 72. I was using a Remington 700 300 WSM with handloaded Nosler Accubond 180gr. One shot DRT.
Distance was more than I wanted but I had shot many, many rounds at that distance so my range card was fully tested and conditions were good. I ranged him at 401 yds.
Took two days to hall him off the mountain. I'm still sore.

Unit 444. All I know is 6 point don't know how to do the measurement. All I could think about was, geez he's big, how the ... do I get him off the top of this mountain! I kept letting him slide down the side of the hill until he finally got hung up enough in some scrub oak that I could safely quarter him. (Well I didn't really let him he just kind of slid down the mountain on his own.) Probably slid down 200 yds from where he went down. I'm pretty sure it was the fall that killed the poor guy not my shot.
