View Full Version : How to I.D. "Century" Ak?
Any way to I.D. a Century built Ak-47 to identify the country of origin?
I was told it is not the Romanian one and If I recall the person I received this from said it was a Yugo but I would like more details.
Is there a site to run Century serial numbers or a Century parts I.D. location?
TIA!

I highly doubt Century keeps concise records on Country of Origin.
The best way to tell is by the components of the actual rifle. A Yugo will have the gas block with the grenade sight/gas shut off, longer gas tube, flip up "night sights" front and rear, a push pin recoil spring lock on the rear trunnion for the dustcover, heavier barrel profile and a finger grooved pistol grip. It may or may not have the bulged front trunnion similar to an RPK and if you are really lucky it will have a 1.5 mm thick receiver and "Zastava Krajovic" roll marked on the front trunnion.
They will not have a chrome lined bore
If it is a Romainian WASR it will have a magazine well that has been opened up by Century, no "dimple" on the receiver at the mag well, a serial number on the front trunnion that starts with a year of manufacture and laminated furniture. The finish will be a really rough matte blue instead of a nice dark parkerizing. The barrel will be chrome lined.
It will bear markings that says "Cugir, Romainia" on the side of the receiver.
There is another variant of a Romainian that is called a GP1975. It will be marked as such on the bottom of the receiver in front of the magwell. It will have a dimpled receiver and possibly remnants of a "G" on the front trunnion.
