View Full Version : Question about transfers from out of state
If I have a parent who wants to give me the old gun collection, how do I best transfer them from the east coast to Colorado? Can they be shipped directly to local FFL or do we need to do FFL to FFL?
Same rules for rifles and handguns? How best to ship?

As long as the receiving FFL has no problem with shipping from a non FFL then you are OK. Handguns have to go overnight. Long guns can go UPS.
A suggestion. Find a local FFL that has a good rate and explain what you are trying to do. If you do it right and find the right FFL you should have two shipments and two transfer fees.
Most UPS hubs will want to see a copy of the receiving FFL to ship.
They might get a better shipping rate to have an ffl send it all off. http://www.jj-enterprises.net/ - he's about the farthest south that I can think of who deals with inbound transfers from non ffl's. Good guy to deal with too.
don't need an FFL on their end, but you need one on your end. try to find someone who will just charge you 1 transfer fee for their time.

It's a task all in itself to find an ffl willing to do it, of the twenty or so I've contacted around town I've only found three who will take inbounds from a private party.

List the ones that refuse to transfer from a private party so it's known who doesn't support the 2nd amendment and apparently would like more curtailing of freedom.
I'm a dealer (out of state) & the law is clear; you only need an FFL to receive, not ship. But then I'm pro-2nd amendment and not a fan of replacing freedom with personal demands.
