Happy Veterans Day everyone! None of what we do would be possible without them, and if you're not behind our troops, make sure you get in FRONT of our troops.

Was digging through some of my pictures, and thought these were appropriate to share today. Pictures from my trip to DC this year.

Cool to see those old pictures. Crazy to think that my family has been in every US war, all the way back to the revolution, 1812, etc.

30's tough. If you can look at that and not get a little choked up, you're a statue.

Thanks to all my fellow servicemembers, past, present, and future.

I wish I could tell my Dad thanks one more time. Those of you whose fathers are vets, take the time to call and tell them thanks, if for no other reason than you can.

For Me personally, I never know if I am deserving of thanks.

I was in '83-86, My reasons for going in were shall we say, less than noble, Getting away from a broken heart and making the payments on the camaro.

I was in at a time that the Army was changing from what it was, to what it has become. My first 180 days in Germany, I spent 135 of them in the woods since I caught the tail end of the transition to the M1.

I don't feel like I made that much of a sacrifice. Since, I got to go places and do things that at that time, I never would have done. I have seen Germany, been in Paris on new years eve. Rode through the Ardennes during the 40th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.

I got to drive a M151, 2 1/2 ton truck, M113 and a M577. Got to ride in a M1 Abrams, a Huey, a blackhawk, a C131, and a C5A..

Heck, I figure I should be thanking those of you who paid my pay check for those three years..

I never saw hostile action, unless of course, you count flipping off the East Germans at the border.

Compared to others, I have never felt as if I did anything to warrant a "thanks".

I went in, did my time, got out. nothing spectacular

This is what makes vets special.
Selflessness and humility.

My Dad brought a Bronze Star home with him from Italy. I asked him what he did to be awarded the Star. "Oh we just went in to a bit of a sticky spot and pulled out a couple of boys that were hurt pretty badly
" is all he has ever said about it.
He and his buddy took a jeep during a hellacious 88mm barrage in the Po River Valley and drove through this barrage 4 times to the line and evacuated 11 boys who had been hit during the barrage. After the second trip they had to find another jeep because the first sustained shrapnel damage and could not be driven anymore. His buddy got shrapnel in the left side but kept going back with my dad to get more wounded out.
All 11 survived their wounds.
"Just pulled out a couple boys that were hurt badly"
Humble to say the least

Marlin, had there been a call to combat, you would have gone wouldn't you? You knew, or at least thought you did, what you were in for when you signed up right? Well thanks for taking the risk.

This is pretty much what I did too. Fixed broken stuff then rode around looking for stuff that wasn't there.

BPT, Not so much humility, I'm still convinced The reason the commies didn't overrun westren europe during those 18 months, is because I would have had them tied up, updating their shot records.. [Tooth]

Yes, Stu,, I never have been that wide eyed and innocent

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who signed on the dotted line wrote a check to Uncle Sam and their country for anything up to and including their life. That, to me, is deserving of respect, period.

Thank you to all the veterans no matter where or when you served. I spoke with a couple today and shook their hands.

It's the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us the freedom of the press.

It's the Soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us the freedom of speech.

It's the Soldier, not the politicians
That ensures our right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness..

It's the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag.

My thanks to all of you who served past and present. My stint wasn't anything overly hellish, wasn't overly boring. I always knew I would go in to the Army, my old man served for 33 years. From humping a radio in Nam to serving as a leader on Presidential Communications teams for both Clinton and Bush Jr. He's the one that taught me about self sacrifice for our nation. He gave so much of himself and us his family to do what he felt he had to. I knew from the time I was a young boy playing soldier until the day he (my father) swore me in for my 4 year stint that I was obliged to serve my country.

We've lost close to 8 troops in Afghanistan this week. Those are the guys I look up to now. So much like Marlin, I some times wonder if I made real sacrifices during my hitch. Yes I saw combat, yes I stood on the line and looked at those evil f*ckers on the other side of the DMZ in Korea, but I didn't have to deal with 12 months of smelly bearded dress wearing bastards shooting at them and trying to blow them up. But I know that what we've all done, whether or not we heard round incoming or not did something for our country that so many are unwilling to. We stood together and gave up our comfortable lives for a uniform, shitty hours, pay that honestly put us below the poverty line and not getting to chose where and where we went. But every day, every frustration and agitation was worth it.

Thank you all.. again, those who have and those who are standing and have stood on that line. It's because of us, that those who have taken up the mission can.

It doesn't matter if you were the Guy driving the tank
or the Guy Kicking doors.
It doesn't matter if you carried an Ammo Box or a tool box, If you delivered Chow or Bombs.

Every single function of the US Military is equally important, Whether you saw action or stood at the line staring into the chaos and prevented it.
So for everyone that put their name on that check, "Payable to the United States of America", I Salute and Thank you.

I Hope everyone had a great day.
I got to spend one more with my Father.
