After siging up to pay $14.95/month in sep to get my free credit report [ROFL1] I then called and canceled, they billed my card in october so I called again and they canceled it. Now I just checked and they billed me again on 11/10!!! So I called them and they said they did not have any record of me calling to cancel, so after yelling at her for 10 minutes to just cancel the fucking thing she was still saying there was a new account opened in my name (I dont know anything about?) this month and I need to keep paying them to protect me, she argued with me for 10 minutes before she agreed to cancel the account! And that was the best part of my day [Beer]

What a scam, but now I want to know if something really was opened in my name [Rant1]

I bet they will! I am gonna start calling them every 2 hours starting tomorrow just to ask if they cancelled the account though.

Their is a "new account" for $398 "opened" in sep that shows up now, I have no idea what it is? Evidentally they didnt protect me or alert me of it [Bang] No wonder I cant buy a house.

So you guys will send 14.95 to a stupid credit scammer but you won't send any $$ to the Barrister of Ethiopia to get a million back...

Credit report is free to you once a year. Why pay third party to look at your own stuff?

They wont show you your score without paying.

Yes they will. If you go to Creditkarma.com you can see a full report, including your score for free. However, you'll start receiving credit offers in the mail 4 times a week. After you go there, I'd Google how to unsubscribe from the free offers and improve your score a few points in a matter of weeks. MB888 knows all about it.

Ok so maybe I am the only one that fell for "free credit report.com", they will send you the report free, but to see it right away and get your score they make you sign up for a "trial" offer that you then cannot cancel before getting billed.

No, I've tried to see my score from that website a bunch of times and you're right. You get your report, but they scam you into paying to see the numbers.

By law you're entitled to one each of your three credit reports (one from each credit bureau) for free once a year anyway. Freecreditreport.com and all those similar 'services' are scams.

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre34.shtm
"Only one website is authorized to fill orders for the free annual credit report you are entitled to under law — annualcreditreport.com. Other websites that claim to offer “free credit reports,” “free credit scores,” or “free credit monitoring” are not part of the legally mandated free annual credit report program. In some cases, the “free” product comes with strings attached. For example, some sites sign you up for a supposedly “free” service that converts to one you have to pay for after a trial period. If you don’t cancel during the trial period, you may be unwittingly agreeing to let the company start charging fees to your credit card."

my former bank did the same thing to me

I called to cancel an account, turns out they didn't, called back a month latter, they said it was fixed and its done. About 2 months later I get a bill in the mail for services charges and a late fee, for an account that remained open, with a notice that it was off to collections soon! that was an angry phone call. And to top it off, they had records of all my cancellation attempts, and admitted it!

You need to check your rating and report from all three of the bureaus. A few years ago one of the bureaus screwed up my report and rating number. The other two bureaus still had my rating high and my report correct. My credit union used the screwed up report and ignored the others. The credit union refused to help me in any way to get it corrected. They also blocked me from using their car buying service because of my poor rating.

It took me about a year to get the report corrected.

So you need to check all three bureaus.

You went through a third party. Go direct.. equifax.com, experian.com or transunion.com.

You realize the score you get through third party doesn't mean a thing right? How many times have you pulled your own credit to check your score and when you go to apply for a credit, the creditors come up with different scores. Most third party use estimation formula based on FICO to generate your score. Sometimes its within 10-20, other times it's WAY off.

Different credit companies also tweak their own formula. I know certain credit companies I would pull from to get higher score for my clients than other companies.

Go to your bank and put a block on all withdrawls from the name they use on your statement.

Just did this last week. They give you your reports but not your score. You have to sign up for one of the "trials" that they offer you after you get your report from each of the big three to get your score.

Yes you can get your free yearly report. But the big 3 charges for the score. The freecreditreport.com type companies are owned and or endorsed by the big 3. I paid 14.95 to get my score form a company directly off of TransUnions site.
Yes it's a messed up system.
