Thanks to Jim for hosting. I learned a lot. I expected to work on my Romy kit but it had issues so I spent time preparing an AMD-65 and a Yugo M72B1. There were a great bunch of guys there, glad to share their knowledge and some really impressive build guns.

Yes, a hug thank you to Jim for hosting and Bryan and the gang for providing their knowledge and experience. It's always fun to get together with like minded people to talk, work and marvel at the newest aquisitions!

Thanks again guys!

Crazy mad fun.. My Romy Khyber pass beater is nearly complete, using some of the stuff I learned today I was able to finish it without more special tools.. But only because it looks a beater. (it is more work to make a gun work well and look a beater I'm sure!)

Thanks to Jim for hosting and all the rest for sharing their knowledge!

it was fun hosting, thanks to keith/revor on the lathe tutorial. I made out ok. have a new pair of S&W glasses, Starret punch and the grand prize is an 8mm PSL with scope. if you can describe the items you can have them back, except for the rifle :)

It's an m76 not a psl! Lol I'll come get it when I have a chance also I believe I left my redish cabellas vest there too. Not worried I'm sure we'll be building again sat if nothing comes up. Also that punch is probably my friend kevin's, is it knurled? Thanks again jim you have a great gun building shop.

By the way gunoholic, it wouldn't be hard to help you build an 8mm ak as green mountain still sells 8mm m76 barrels

Okay aside from a bit more finish and decorations work the "Tribal Artifact" AKM is complete, looks pretty cool to me but I'm like that.
Thanks for the help guys!
Number two will end up being "pretty" more NIB looking. Maybe we can get a start on that this weekend!
I'll try and post pics tomorrow.

ya gotta get one of those guitar straps they made in the 60s and use that as a sling!!!
i saw some of those on some paki aks and looked real neat!!matched the brass tack look

I'm torn on the strap, I've seen several leather "guitar straps" with decoration's and some wool clother versions with colorful wool "pom-poms"
It will have at least one pom pom, it has several silver tacks in the hand guards, tasteful and not overstated, I'll get more in the buttstock. I think I'll even wrap a piece of rawhide around the wrist and shrink it on.

ive seen old guitar straps and camera straps at rchurch rumage sales and at some thrift shops-musta been in someones atic or basement for ages!
i like the leather shrink wrap!i guess if you cant do that you can always use a leather lace and lace it up like a football!
the smaller tacks look nice-i hate when they have the reeal huge ones and too many!!
ya gotta take a pic when your done and have justin email it to me so i can get some ideas for one i want to build!!
id have to search around for some aribic marked stuff-id hate to do that to a poor yugo-sacralige!![Tooth]

It's only a Romy, and a rusty one at that. I thought about carving in some Paki "comment" and I still might "The Lion" is short and sweet in Paki. This weekend we'll check the headspace and then it's off to the range! I'll sew the rawhide with artificial sinue or rawhide thread.
Justin has pics right now. I'll get them up on the board when I get 'em on a PC that I can re-size them.

thatll make for a cool carving!!

was it a matching numbers kit?if it is the headspace should be dead on

It's a matching kit so it should be cool, but see I'm from the AR world so I need to check just to be sure.

Looks good but what about that green plastic tape that they love so much, by the way I have one of those cheesy paisly 60's-70's guitar straps and they would be perfect (I can't use mine though it was dad's back in the 70's he'd kill me since he's a pack rat haha) and you can always decorate with cut off case heads pressed into the wood, I wouldn't be suprised if afghanis do that but you see it a lot on yugo "art" dang now I want to get a maadi kit from apex and a cheap us barrel and make an absurd afghani hot rodded rifle.

I'll make it worse for you.. Check these out.
It's obvious that in the tribal regions of Asia these get decorated pretty substantually. Looking at local dress gives you an idea of what the locals have to work with. In the Hindu Kush region of Pakistan/Afghanistan or Chitral region of Pakistan/India there are many tribes to choose from that would want and have access to AK's once they gave up their Martini Henry's!

I gotta admit as cheesy as afghani rifles get nothing beats the 90210 stickers sometimes encountered on yugo stock sets haha.

So you could use bottle caps too I bet they would add some flair, just imagine if those tribes got their hands on one of those bejeweled things that girls use to accesorize their crap (according to the infomercials)

You should wrap some rawhide around the stock up by the receiver as if the stock has been repaired ;) or maybe tightly wrap it with wire or something that would be cool. I like the other picture with the pom up by the sight, classic.
