On the History Channel at 8:00PM (RIGHT NOW) they are having two, 30 minute, back to back shows based on people who are preparing for the end of the world.

I'm opposed to going to black powder though. Any thing you can do with a black powder gun, you can do, and easier, with modern ammunition. Right?

Well I think the biggest issue would be primers, but I suppose if you can buy and store tens of thousands of them, you should be good to go.

Oh, and you already have plenty of brass. Otherwise, there isn't going to be much difference as far as supplies needed. However, if you are going to be manufacturing your own black powder, like they are, the black powder setup may have the edge as far as being self sufficient. Guess it couldn't hurt to have a black powder rifle and handgun laying around.

you're assuming powder, too.. one could make black powder "from scratch" in a pinch... (if you know basic chemistry)

although Some calibers of "modern" ammunition are compatible with black powder, too... theoretically anything with enough case capacity could work, but I'd reserve it for bolt actions..

I wasn't aware at the time of the original posting, that they were going to be making their own black powder. Had they not been making their own, they would have had to stock up on it, just as you would with a modern firearm, but yeah you are right.

Anybody have any idea if/when it's supposed to be on again? I'm seeing IRT playing at 8 on the History channel.

Yeah, I saw that. I had to go online to The History Channel website. When you click on the show, it says that it isn't showing any time during the next two weeks. What the heck?

The dad changed his mind after for the first time ever he went to a local walmart. Now the prep is toward how to take over the walmart when SHTF. Show is cancelled

Anybody know if I can catch it on demand? Not home right now, so...

Irving

I just checked and I didn't see it under The History Channel On Demand stuff. I guess you'll just have to watch Ice Road Trucks and USA Top Gear.
