View Full Version : Sighting Options
Bad eyes need glass. Iron sights are my second choice - can't beat rugged reliability. :)

Right now both uppers have iron sites but I've have red dots and scopes, always seem to go back to the iron sites.
I've got an aimpoint and ironsights... I like both.
different applications for either.

Iron sights for now. But I am actually on the look out for a good mounting system and scope for a Varminter that I am building.

3-9x40 on a 20" A2 for 100-300 yds at the range. I also have the KNS crosshair front sight that replaces the post and that works perfectly at closer distances. Scope is mounted on a see-through bracket for instant access to both systems.

It seems the consensus is that those wwho have multiple AR's have them set up differently.
20" H-Bar Flat top/gas block Scoped 15x fixed
16" H-Bar A2 z-bar co-witness Red Dot
16" Eliminator A4 iron sites
16" M4 Red Dot co-witness BUIS
7.5" Pistol Red Dot
My AR is new (to me at least) so all i have is iron sights.

um.. I only have 1 AR and I just use (will use) the iron sight. Never been fired.
I got some catching up to do!
I still just have iron sights.

Open sites.
But I do have a scope mounted and sighted in for my 20" HBAR, just rarely use it. And a cheapy ($29 NcSTAR Aimpoint knockoff) mounted and sighted in for my lightweight carbine. And again, I rarely use it. Although someday I think I'll mount it on a heavy kicker and see how long it lasts.

I have a scope on a 20" A2 for 100-500 yds at the range. Just purchased both the AR and the scope setup in the last week. The scope is mounted on a see-through bracket for access to both scope and irons. I have a NCStar on my SKS thats lastedfine to this point. Actually surprised by the quality of what I got for the money(mil-dot and all).
:?: I have iorn sights right now but, if I can afford some better optics I think I would like to get an EOTech or Aimpoint. I don't know anything about them, any suggestions?

come to a shoot and find out first hand. I can offer my Aimpoint and I'm sure someone else has a EOT.
on mine i have a CompML3 with co-witness ironsight.
I got the EOTech and so far it's been great! I had it at the last shoot up north. That was so much fun I can hardly wait untill the next one! I need to try it out on some longer shots.
Bushy 16" has an Aimpoint knock off and carry handle/regular front sight
RRA 20" has regular front sight post for now with an Arms BUIS - Going to put a nice variable on it when I get the cash. But I'll never have an AR without BUIS of some type... optics fail, iron generally doesn't and you can still usually nail stuff out to 300m with it. May not be tight groups, but you will hit it :)

I have NM iron sights on my custom 20" upper. I also have a red dot and auto ranging scope.
Iron for most applications
Red Dot for close up ( sub 100 yards)
Scope for 300-600 yards
Im old school open sights but as I age I find that I think I might like a optic sight not really sure . I can get a deal from a friend on a ACOG Ta-47-6 2x20 amber dot carry handle mount for $500.00 notax about 4 yrs old like new, or a AGOG Ta01 4x32 new in box with warrenty for $700.00 On ther site the TA01 list for $990.00 So is 700.00a deal is $500 for the Ta47-6 2x20 a deal ? Help ACOG experts thanks

I have a brand new XCR with Troy flip sights front and rear. I've been researching the optics choices and leaning heavily towards the EOT 512 or 557. Jerry at Ordnance Outsellers said he's going to be a dealer and thought the 512 might go for $300, but he hadn't seen his dealer pricing yet. Jensen Arms in Loveland had a 512 on display for $387 but didn't have any others in stock. I did like the ruggedness of the 512.

If anyone wants to see how their sights actually work in practical exercises, I strongly recommend shooting the Pueblo Rifle match (4th Sundays, 0 - 425 yards) and one of the local 3-Gun series such as Weld County or Clear Creek (0-100 yards, more CQB stuff). At Camp Guernsey, we do both but more longer distances.
my bushy is stock and it look nice ,but if I had money who knows :P

Does anybody have any experience or opinions about the Trijicon Reflex vs. EOTech. Both seem to be about the same ballpark pricewise according to their respective websites. The Reflex doesn't require batteries where the EOT's do. If the Reflex is as rugged as the ACOGs they might be a viable alternative for my DSA FAL when it ever gets here.
In the meantime, I broke down and purchased a ACOG TA31F and will post some pictures of it on my XCR as soon as I figure out how to do it.

The best choice for a fighting/serious 1x dot is the Aimpoint.
The EOTech is better than the Reflex or Reflex II. The reflex is junk.
