Okay so here's the deal. I have an extra flat-top upper in the safe and I need to put a barrel on it. I already have a 20" HBAR A2 and a 16" M4 flat-top. I'm thinking of either a 20" Govt. profile barrel, or a M4 profile dissipator. This will be on a post ban lower.

This gun is going to be just for fun, no specific function. Just a general purpose, all around gun.

Thoughts?

Well I asked this same question on ar15.com and got some responses.
The current winner is the dissipator,
and the kewl picture of the thread is this one - - -

A pretty convincing argument. And it just reaks of major kewlness.

A rifle length SIR. Backed by an ARMS 40.
Hogue grip.
Vltor rifle length stock.
Aimpoint sight in an ARMS 22M68.
KKF A3 post-ban brake on the front end.

heres an Idea I have been holding in the back of my head for a while..

16" bbl with a 16" free-float sleeve/tube.
mount an aimpoint on it and it looks like a bad-ass surpressed AR :D

I seen it on arfcom a long time ago and will build one sometime ($$ is a big issue right now)

Dang that one pictured in boss mans thread. All the grips and optics probably cost more than all the hardware. It is nice though. I think the dissipator will be my next project also. But it will be a while I just got done ordering a 20" AR kit and a bull barrel kit from JT. Hopefully they will be here Wed. or sooner. :D

Thats my problem I keep buying guns and never have any money for accessories. But some day I may run out of guns to buy....... Nope never mind that wont happen.

I chatted with the owner of this one. I confirmed that the components are:

1) Military version of the rifle length SIR. Bi-level top rail.
2) Aimpoint Comp-M
3) ARMS 22M68 mount for the Aimpoint.
4) ARMS #40 back up iron sight.
5) A1 length Vltor rifle stock. Standard version.
6) Hogue pistol grip.
7) Bushmaster Dissipator barrel. Lightweight conversion by KKF, with A3 post-ban muzzle brake.
8) MagPul on the magazine.

The thread states it weighs out at about ten pounds with the sling. I figure this is priced out at about $1500 or a little higher for all the stuff.

Okay I made a decision. I'm getting a dissipator barrel. One of our members here gave me such a great deal I can't turn it down.

It started life as a 16" Bushmaster Dissipator HBAR. KKF did a light-weight conversion on it and added his A3 brake. I'll mate it up with the extra flat-top receiver that I have in my safe. Circuits is doing the barrel install for me. I'm not sure what it will look like yet, but I have some great ideas. (Budget not withstanding.)

Here's what it looks like now. (No I don't get the ACOG. rats!!) But I do have the Ergo grip so mine will look just like this.

It will probably wear a carry handle for now. But I'm sure it will get an ARMS #40 or the LMT rear sight soon. Or until I can afford an ACOG or an Aimpoint to put on it.

I say 20". If I want short, I'd just as soon go 11.5". Karl.

14.5 would be great. 11.5 would be fun too. Its just that $200 SBR tax that keeps the fun meeter from being pegged!
