Was up before sunrise this morning for a workout. Headed to the pisser and looked out a window in the process, biggest herd of elk I've ever seen in person, yearlings to big ol' crusty studs. Unsure how many but the lady counted 46 before finally giving-in, wild-ass guess from me...maybe 70+ animals. An amazing sight.
Still dark, grabbed the camera, headed out the door but couldn't get s*** for a good pic before they moved off.
The sound of a herd that big moving at a decent pace was tremendous. Trees shakin', branches breakin', hooves pounding on the cold mountain ground...wow...they made an impression...really cool!
Unfortuntely this is all the pics I have, poor camera settings spur of the moment, no lighting, shaky movement but...will give you a general idea. I have not seen nearly as many this year in total, I guess they decided to all show-up at once. But...I have a big dude up here this week that is just a friggin' monster, we're trying to get a shot of him too but he's elusive. I have a feeling this is "his" herd.
