Yes - A new Romanian SAR-1. I bought a DPMS AR15 first then joined this group. The AK's sounded like fun, too, so I got one of those.

Oh you traitor! How does your AR put up with it in the same safe, I cant believe you would do that to the poor thing.

Romanian SAR-1

He never said he kept them in the "same" safe. I keep my two M16's and my AK in the same safe. The 16's just cluster together and stick their nose up at AK. :P Karl.

Remember having an AK and an AR in the same safe is the politically correct multi-national and or multi-cultural thing to do. By having them together you can truly celebrate diversity.

from what Ive seen and heard Id stay away from the SAR 3. Mags are hard to find ( most are junk ). and there are feed problems galore.

Id save the $ up and go with a vepr .223 or get a preban Norinco.....they are sweeeeeeeet.......thats what i did!

GunDog
10-08-2003, 10:39
Hmmm! Maybe I shouldn't.The bulgarian model was what I was checking into.30 rd. mags were around 9 bucks each, and seemed plentiful.Although Hesse Arms has a bad rap with a few folks I know so just maybe I should put the $310 into something else.I do want an ak variant in 223 either way. Thanks for the advice.

AK47 Ranger
10-08-2003, 10:44
go for a SAR2.......bakelite mags are like $7 each and plentiful. Ammo isnt too bad at $130/1000 rounds. No recoil, Devastating bullet impact.

Hoenstly if you gave me a sar 3, id junk it!

bbadmin
10-08-2003, 11:50
SOG has the SAR1 for like $290 the lamintated stock SAR1 for $320. AIM has the SAR2 for $399.

Tapco has Romanian AK47 mags, 30 rounders for $9 and 20 rounders for $7. The 20 rounders are cool!

I just have to find someone to order one for me. Circuits is apparently out of town. And me with money burning a hole in my pocket!

AK47 Ranger
10-08-2003, 14:16
Yeah i just know that for me i bought all te post ban stuff first and now wish I really hadnt! I mean its cool to have the Sar's and stuff like that but then you get a REAL Varient like my Noricno 56S1 underfolder. it makes you wonder why you didnt just save up the $ you spent on all the postban stuff and go for the scarce ones!

KarlPMann
10-08-2003, 18:40
Or you could save up and buy an UZI. Karl.

bbadmin

There is one. It's in the IMI museum in Israel. IMI experimented with 30 calibers total before deciding a sub caliber fit the bill. Karl.

Yes,

I have two post-ban Hungarian SA85M's, one still NIB in the cosmoline.

I keep my pre-ban AR-15 CAR in the same safe but I think the AK's have the upper hand because they win the majority.

It did, It did. Went out monday "just looking" and all I had to do was to hold the SAR-1 and I knew I had found something great. It's alot more substantial than I thought. Field stripped it, looks good. Ordered a couple of AK manuals. I want to bump fire it tho, I really do. Have to get bulk ammunition tho. :)

www.k-var.com

Register on the site, and on the forum, even if you never use it. That will get you discounts off the listed prices.

Then log on and buy magazines. And get some magazines while you are there. Then, if you don't want the wood stocks, get the synthetic ones.

Oh, and buy magazines. Not drums. 30 round magazines. Just ask Marlin.

Then save your money and buy an SAR2. You'll be happy happy happy!

Thanks. Logged in and registered on the forum, then bought some magazines and registered as a customer and got $1.35 off my price. Pretty good. I'll start saving my money.

Got a Rom. SAR-1 last Sept. Only reason I bought it was because it wasn't an SAR-2. Plus, the local funstore had these in stock, at a decent price and I could look them over before I purchased.

Hey Glock!

Is that a fixed folder you have on there?

If you want I'll trade you a wood stocks for it. Let me know.

I took the wood off of my SAR1 and replaced it with synthetic. The SAR2 I have came with something else on it so I have the wood for it too. Give you something to play with if you want.

Thanks, my furniture looks and feels pretty dry. I think I'll put a little stain and some oil on it this weekend, make it look more like the others on this page. Picked up a bunch more 7.62x39 yesterday. starting to hoard before the July shoot.

glock,

The SAR1 rifles I had to choose from all had unfinished wood. :? And the rifle I bought looked like it's wood had been shaped with a chunk of cinder block. Across the grain.

I used 100grit paper to smooth out the biggest scrape marks. It looked good enough, and felt good enough I didn't even bother going to finer grit paper. After all, it's an AK.

A little elbow grease, stain and oil will really help the stocks on these things.

Next planned purchase is a Yugo underfolder.
Ultimate goal someday - Arsenal milled underfolder

I know this won't make me very popular here, but I vastly prefer AK's to AR's. I'm not a world-renowned gun expert, but for any situation I'd find myself needing to use a gun to protect myself or hunt, I'd rather have the near 100% reliability of an AK, coupled with the larger diameter bullet. The few AR's I've had the chance to shoot have been finicky after not cleaning every 500-800 rounds, and I just don't have the confidence in a .22 bullet as a man-stopper.

That said, if I was target/varmint shooting, AR's are leagues above most AK's.

apparently you have never seen a human shot with a 5.56 it aint pretty. Is it the best choice no, is it sufficient yes. i would prefer a larger round myself, but the 5.56 will put a man down.
