Found this link on THR. I did a quick search but couldn't find anything in the US media.

Very interesting story:

We'll never see this story in the Denver Post.

I would have liked to meet Mr. Don Alejo Garza Tamez. RIP

A valuable lesson was taught that day. Now if more people would follow suit the cartels would be looking for a new place to set up camp. RIP to one of the true heros to this whole trajedy going on. Instead of fleeing more people should be standing up to them, take them out one at a time.

Wow, Mr. Garza, a true patriot and hero it seems. RIP.

It's a shame he died alone. With morals like that, you would have to suspect someone else could have stood against the assault with him. His country has a lot to learn from this guy.

I bet his ranchhands and all would have but he sent them home according to the article... very sad.

+1. It doesn't take more than few brave men like this guy to fight back the cartels. I wonder what would have happened to him if he would have survived. That's probably the same reason why the armed force found him 'alone.'

I believe SAfriday means that there are others who stood up with him and disappeared after the shootout. Hint: multiple rifles in many windows and entry ways, and 6 of the cartels were taken down. I wonder if the Cartel withdrawn as said in the article or captured other occupants of the ranch before disappearing, or both sides mutually withdrew after the rancher died.

amazing bravery but very poor tactics.

if he had been smart he could have won the fight and survived.

Yeah, I'm talkin' about you. Its all too easy for you to sit there and critique the tactics of an 80yo man protecting his property against multiple gunmen with hand grenades. Guess what? Although he didn't survive, he won that fight.

Sorry, only white people are allowed to be badguys in his movies.

Okay guys, lets keep the attacks between the mexican cartel and the ranch owner and not bring them here among the membership.

We've got far too fine a membership pool here to squabble about minor differences of opinion.

bullshit.

he's dead, and now they can walk right in and take his house.

kudos to him for taking a few with him, and maybe survival wasn't on his agenda to start with, but he lost.

and it's all too easy for you to sit there in your chair and yadda yadda yadda.

invariably on gun forums if someone doesn't agree with you they call you a keyboard commando or a chairborne ranger.

I said if he had fought smarter he could have won and survived. I you disagree, do so politely and say why. maybe if your opinion has merit you could change my mind.

call me names and I'll tell you where to stick it.

Edited to add: started before ginsue posted. he's right, no more posting in this thread

Sorry if I hurt your feelings, I guess I mistook you for somebody with a thicker hide.
They didn't take over on his watch = 80yo man win.
Survival would have been a bonus but i think he delivered his message loudly and clearly; thats all I'm saying.
