View Full Version : best dedicated .22LR upper?
who's got the best dedicated .22lr upper for the AR?
I'm thinking I could run one of these pretty damn cheap on my budget (after initial costs)
I've seen them down in the $350 range for a dedicated flat-top upper with one magazine. I think those are made by Oly. I know that there is usually one in the Sportsmans Guide catalog I get. I have not seen one posted for sale on the boards, but I have seen them in other catalogs.
There are a bunch of discount coupons for Sportsmans Guide posted on the Guns Net boards.
I'd like to have one too. I just have been distracted by other projects lately.
I've seen that one, I'll have to look around for it. It's a .22 dedicated upper, Same spec's as the M4, I think they're in SG. I'll see if I can find the name here in a little while.
I know that CZ makes one and I think I've seen one other...
both in the 3 bills range
Yea, I think it goes for around that, Start's with a "K" I think, funky spelling I can't remember how it's spelled.
I think I ran across one in the Cheaper than Dirt Catalog also. I'll check on that one also. :D

There are a bunch of these for sale in the EE on ARFCOM.
How hard is it to find mags for these?

what type of upper.
if you are seeking one that looks just like a standard a2 upper dpms makes one that not very expensive but lacks a float tube if you plan on using it for match rifle practice but they can put one on for you also.
now you want the best I would guess CLE has about the best one but I believe the upper alone runs for around a grand and its nice.
I have been shooting my CLE upper a lot lately. Mostly indoors at the Olympic Training Center.
At 50 yards, 1/2-3/4 groups (prone w/ sling) are the norm for just any old ammo. Eley TenX or Lapua Midas cuts that by 25-50%.

The best upper is the Keuhl. Brownells used to have some left, a few months ago. You might contact Rick(?) at I think Keuhlprecisionuppers.com. They are not cheap. Around 6 bills if I remember, but are fun to shoot. :)

Well, I can tell you what NOT to buy. I bought a DPMS bull barrel upper and it ran okay but was too heavy for plinking and I decided I wanted iron sights. Sold it when Bushmaster came out with theirs and bought a Bushy. It was a jamomatic. Sent it in to Bushmaster and it came back still jamming. Sold it at a great loss (with appropriate warnings about jamming) and bought a DPMS A2 upper. It was a jamomatic! Sent it into DPMS and they replaced the extractors. Sold it as soon as it came back (again at a loss) and gave up on .22 uppers. YMMV!

hmmm interesting.
My DPMS has been good. after about 1.5K it starts jamming a good cleaning fixes that problem though.
My Compass Lake upper is still running 100%. For $900+ bucks, it better.
