Does Sara Palin have a chance of being elected U.S. President next term?
"YOU BETCHA"
nooooooooooope. she will be torn apart if she tries to run and won't make it through the primaries
She does if the two parties continue their strategy of fielding candidates who are horrendously ill-fitted for the presidency. Ask yourself, when was the last time in almost any election that we had a choice of good candidates? Or even just one good candidate? Not just in the national elections either! For some reason, the parties, both national and local, seem to be locked into nominating and backing radical and polarizing candidates. Sarah Palin may very well end up on the ballot in 2012. And because of it a very unpopular incumbent may very well win the election despite the misgivings of a majority of the people, simply for want of a qualified opponent.

Bag on Sarah if you must, but America would be better off with Trig Palin as president over the stupid Marxist we have now.
I've heard rumors that Sarah Palin does not like hunting, has never been hunting and it was only a photo-op with the dead moose.
When Sara was interviewed at her house, by the press, she had to run to her neighbor's house down the street to grab some moose chili.

Ya know...I just listened to the audio clip. She was talking about the Korean situation and she simply misspoke. That's all it was. No one is immune from making a mistake.
If you can't understand that by listening to the audio, in context, then you're more "dumb" than you seem to think she is.
In how many cities have you been elected mayor? How many states have you governed? How many times have you been selected to be the vice presidential nominee of the world's most powerful country? Why don't you post your resume up here for all of us to see so we can compare you against Palin and decide who the "dumb" one is?
In my opinion she's got more guts than just about anyone I can think of - including some on this board. I doubt any of you are willing to subject yourself (not to mention your families) to the ridicule and hatefulness of the left and the uninformed that she has in order to stand up for what you believe in.
“...the latest blunder from Sarah Palin...not sure I will be desperate enough to vote for this dummy...
Just "refudiate" the faux pas, you'll be fine.
And dumb...no...average...yeah. I'd take her either way over a rat-f***, inexperienced douche with a socialist bent and hatred for his country as we contend with today.
But...I would have a hard time casting a vote in that direction. If nothing else that whiny, nasally dialect would drive me nucking futz week-after-week.
Anyone running against will probably get some good mileage out of her being a quitter. It really looks bad and is definitely a negative characteristic for a position that would be many times more stressful than Governor.

So let me get this straight. George Bush was an Ivy League graduate and F105 fighter pilot (regarded by many as one of the most demanding aircraft in the USAF inventory to fly at the time) who went on to become a pretty successful businessman and president of the United States. And he's an "idiot" because he mispronounces "nuclear". Sarah Palin is "dumb" because in a conversation regarding tensions between N and S Korea she misspoke and called N Korea our ally...which she corrected about 5 seconds later after the mistake was pointed out to her.
Does that about sum it up?

Well, hells bells. That's just an airtight fuckin' argument right there.
I don't have any naked pictures of her. Therefore, I guess she's never been naked.
If she makes it past the primaries I will have lost all faith in the right. You think Obama did well last time? He'll cream Palin.
I like Sarah Palin, I think she's a damn good looking woman and I'd like to be hooked up with someone like her. I'd love to have a beautiful woman in my life that smiled all the time and at least acted happy, plus she likes to do outdoorsy things. Total polar opposite to the witch I'm married to.[Rant1]
But for politics? No, I don't think so. She might be able to toddle around in that field and garner attention, but she doesn't have a snowball's chance of getting elected to any major national office. Just my opinion, but I think she and her family can smell the cash, and they're riding her fame and popularity for every dime they can gather up. When the hubbub dies down, they'll have enough cash in the bank to live very well, happily ever after.
I don't think she's dumb, I think she's as sly as a fox. Cha-ching, cha-ching.
I"m sure Obama would like to Cream her instead of the Wookie he's married too.

I like Sarah, She represents a certain strength that most women and quite honestly, a lot of men should aspire to attain. I do not want her as a president at this time. That may change depending on what ever morons get the nod from the brilliant peeps in the GOP HQ.
I think simply throwing someone into the ring as a nominee based upon their "token" qualities is damn sad. We just experienced that with Nobama in 2008. Now in 2010, some one wants to put a woman into office simply based upon the novelty of it? I think we may see better results if they put a gay Oriental in the running. :) Not that I would vote for that candidate either. But that is what it is coming to. Just put someone in the running because we have not seen that before is ridiculous.
Again, nothing against Mrs. Palin, I respect her and admire her values. But like others have said, there are some issues with it.

Obama/Biden beat McCain/Palin 52.9% to 45.7% ... the only reason McCain got more than 30% was because of Palin.
She has significantly more than a "snowball's chance" of election to a major national office and frankly if Barry bows out next time around and Hillary runs you'll see just how badly she'll get beat by Palin.
I agree that there may be better candidates but since Democrats in New Hampshire pick the GOP's candidates its not like we'll ever get to see any good ones anyway.

So, fact: Bush was AWOL for most of is service (you know he was assigned to a squadron in AL where NOBODY remember seeing him, and where he couldn't perform any flying time since this squadron was not assigned any aircraft), and the fact that as early as 1968 the F-105 was an obsolete aircraft which was the best chance for dubya to NEVER being sent to any foreign deployment.
Fact: There is special ward for Ivy league crook in a federal prison in upstate NY.... Just saying. This is not a recipe for success.
Let me ask you this: how can anybody graduate from ANY college and not being able to pronounce such a basic word? How can anybody pretend to be a candidate for ANY office, and mix up North and South Korea? What's next: There is (god forbid) another earthquake in Haiti and you send the Marines to Tahiti?
Seriously my friend: stop drinking the kool aid from Washington (whatever the flavor), and make sure next time you help me choose a candidate that is REALLY qualified for office. Not a lawyer, not a career politician, not the heir of a political dynasty....

See? No name calling here.
Got it. I guess those are just your little terms of endearment.
I am just saying this because instead of having a interesting political discussion you are merely making personal attack as well as repeating FOX poorly crafted propaganda.
First of all, an "interesting political discussion" doesn't start by claiming a person who's had great success in her personal and professional life, most likely far more than you'll ever see (at least professionally), is dumb. Is your intellectual capacity really so limited? So, make no mistake. This is not an "interesting political discussion". Furthermore, I'm not repeating anyone's propaganda. I'm stating my opinion which is diametrically opposed to yours. Apparently, you're too much of a sensitive little pussy to handle it when someone responds in a manner with which you disagree. (In case you didn't recognize it, that was a personal attack)
No, that's not fact. At best, about 2 of 6 years are disputed. So, unless you can provide documentation that Bush was charged with being AWOL that's nothing more than your obviously slanted opinion. And BTW...I know I wrote he flew F-105s...should've been F-102s. And, yes, as it was phased out from active service beginning in the mid to late 60s, some F-102s were transferred to Guard units. However, F-102s were still on active duty and flying air defense missions until mid 1973. Calling it "obsolete" in 1968 just isn't accurate. Obviously the Air Force felt it was worthy of keeping in the active duty air defense role until mid 1973. Not only that, but all squadrons flying the F-102 were overseas as late as 1973...as in "foreign countries". Germany, the Netherlands and Iceland, to be specific.
Fact: There is special ward for Ivy league crook in a federal prison in upstate NY.... Just saying. This is not a recipe for success.
Really? And where would that be?
Let me ask you this: how can anybody graduate from ANY college and not being able to pronounce such a basic word? How can anybody pretend to be a candidate for ANY office, and mix up North and South Korea? What's next: There is (god forbid) another earthquake in Haiti and you send the Marines to Tahiti?
Seriously, dude. You're grasping at non-existent straws here. Your boy, Obama, said he "visited 57 states with one left to go". And he went on to say that he wasn't allowed to visit AK and HI. People make mistakes. Get over it.
Seriously my friend: stop drinking the kool aid from Washington (whatever the flavor), and make sure next time you help me choose a candidate that is REALLY qualified for office. Not a lawyer, not a career politician, not the heir of a political dynasty....
Well, let's get something straight. I'm not your friend. Not only that but how can I help you choose a candidate "next time" when I've never helped you to choose a candidate previously? It's not my job to help you choose a candidate. You accuse me of drinking the "kool aid" but you can't come up with anything more original on your own than accusing me of "drinking the kool aid"? Everything you've said is either leftist talking points (mostly false, BTW) or something you've heard elsewhere.
Next you're going to tell us that the 9/11 attacks were "an inside job" perpetrated by the Bush administration.
See? No name calling here.

Now let me say this. Don't confuse my defense of Sara Palin and George Bush as an endorsement of their policies.
I didn't have too many issues with Bush during his first term. However, the second term was a different story. I wasn't a fan of the big gov't spending that Bush approved, growing the federal bureaucracy that Bush instituted, the Patriot Act that he signed or the way he (like many presidents before him) micro-managed the wars or how he ordered the wars prosecuted.
But I will defend him against lies like we've seen here or charges that he was an "idiot". If anyone thinks Bush got to where he did by being an idiot then they are truly the idiot. Not Bush.
Pretty much the same goes for calling Sara Palin "dumb". A woman doesn't accomplish what she has by being dumb. If some of you can't see that...well maybe that's because you're actually too simple-minded to comprehend it. I don't necessarily think she'd make a great president. She certainly wouldn't be my first choice as a candidate. And if you look closely (you really don't have to look closely...you just have to look and pay attention to what I wrote) you'll see I never endorsed her as my chosen candidate. I think Chris Christie or Bobby Jindal would be excellent conservative choices. But she'd be a damn sight better than ANYONE the left can offer up. Furthermore, at this point, I don't think she's electable to the presidency. But, yes, I'd vote for her over ANY democrat.

Our two party system is at times equal to rubbing bleach in one eye and toilet cleaner in the other and figuring out which one hurts more. I hate to here people say I'm not voting for him cause he's a dem or rep. That's no differant than not voting for some one because they're black or Mexican. Why would I want to vote against my principles and values to support someone who's going to add power to the party I despise? Even if I like that candidate it just doesn't make sense to me.
Many people followed that plan in 2008 and look what we got. I don't like anything about Obama's political ideas and policies or what he's done to this country. But is he dumb or an idiot? Not by a long shot.

Today I have been called names that I don't think I deserve. I usually stay away from any political/religious debates not because I fear for the outcome, but because I am a tolerant person and I believe that we can all have our opinions and be respectful with each other.
What I have seen today is the worse of our society at work: intolerance and rejections of others opinions.
Now let me clarify one important point: I am NOT a liberal. I am just a normal guy, call me citizen Y, who has been disappointed by one government lies after another.
Yet, as a disappointed citizen, do I have the right to exclude half of my country, my brothers and sisters, you know, other humans, from the right to decide what's good for them? Should I despise them because they are liberals? No. Should I try to make them see my side of the reasoning? Yes. And by my experience, it is quite easy.
Now I know I am probably preaching in the desert here, but I highly value this forum and its members, and I wish some folks will just "agree to disagree" since at the end of the day we are all Americans.

Agreed. I wasnt joking.
You know, irregardless of the damage he's done, people like THESE are still out there, waiting breathlessly to re-elect him. It's going to be an uphill battle no matter what. The Republicans damn well better find some GOOD candidates this time!

As I've previously posted, I don't like Palin and do not want her running for president on the 'R' ticket. I don't think she is dumb per se, as others have mentioned, as she obviously is smart enough to follow someone or someone's advice and is ringing in the money. Just putting that out there.
If McCain hadn't looked far and wide for someone to pick as a running mate that could possibly siphon votes (in this case, female votes) from the Obamination, would we even be talking about her, or would she still be running Alaska in obscurity and broke?
The Bush and the Ivy League thing; I can't say to the education obtained there as I didn't go to an Ivy League school, but what it does do, is put people together who have connections. Most Ivy Leaguers seem to be the children of former Ivy Leaguers and the connections their families make and have seem to assist them as much, if not more, than the education itself. Call it the "good ol' boy system" or the "skull and crossbones society" or what-have-you. As many of you are aware, it isn't what you know, it is who you know that is a major facet in getting "a good job" or "the promotion", or being selected to a specific board, or again, what-have-you.
I, personally would prefer someone like Chris Christie to run on the 'R' ticket. A solid, no-nonsense conservative who isn't afraid to say "No" to others and piss people off.

x1,000 Wouldn't matter if he was Dem,Rep,ACP,Anti-christ, it DOES NOT matter what he is to some folks. It's the "principal", the "we done it". There are people that never voted a day in their lives, and probably didn't plan on it, until 08. People that couldn't tell you the difference between a Democrat or a Republican, a Liberal or Conservative. It's no different than the folks that voted for Bristol in dancing with the stars.

Chris Christie is a class act.
No BS, no spin, you know where he stands and why.
We need more politicos who will keep their rhetoric focused on what matters.
What they need to do is, throw Steele off the bus, and let Palin run the RNC..

Won't happen, because the RNC is an inside the Washington Beltway job, and then she would be stuck there which she does not want.

“Obviously we gotta stand with our North Korean allies," Thats the latest blunder from Sarah Palin.
We all agree we desperately need somebody else at the white house, but I am not sure I will be desperate enough to vote for this dummy..... And I voted for the "nuculear" idiot once...
Hmm, you're the one in question here. Has anybody asked you to be VP? Does anybody want to pay you to come and speak? Do you have your own show? Does anybody care what you think?

OH! OH! I know this one! Pick me, pick me!
My question here is: What gave John McCain the audacity to pick Sara Palin as his running mate?

My uninformed guess would be as a vote siphoner. The majority of women tend to vote democrat, so having a female on the ticket, he hoped would siphon some of those female votes away.

and he was trying to pull the votes from obama for all the women that wanted hitlery.
still didn't work though...palin isn't your typical woman

The point is not that having a degree from an Ivy League school makes someone better. The point is you don't graduate from one of those schools by being an idiot. You might have help getting in but you still have to put forth some effort and have some gray matter upstairs to graduate.
And I checked my inbox...nothing there yet. Hurry up with the photos, hound.
i put my wife through school for 10 years, she has a phd and is very well respected in her field. when the ivy league schools have a question in her field they call her (no shit, Harvard has on more than one occasion) there are plenty of people with high dollar degrees that couldn't find their own butts with both hands and a flashlight, i disagree that having the degree means you have gray matter. it is what you do with your gray matter that means more to me than anything. being book smart means nothing if you can't apply your education in the real world and there are many that cannot.

palin has her pluses and minuses imho,
i don't think she is the best choice to carry the GOP back into the whitehouse.
i don't think she is dumb, there are just better choices.
I'm a little leery of the folks here who think that just because a person has money that makes them a good candidate for the Presidency. It should be about past contributions to society and success backing up the bullshit that flows from your mouth not your bank account balance. I do agree that stumbles in public speaking shouldn't label someone as incompetent, everyone makes those kind of mistakes. However, experience as governor of a relatively small segment of the population (which she stepped down from if no one remembers) doesn't make you automatically qualified to lead the whole nation.

That nails my biggest problem with her! She chose to make money off of reality TV and a book deal instead of fulfilling her service to her country. I am not a fan of putting another person in D.C. who is more eager to make a few bucks than serve this country! Talk about evidence of being will to sell out. You think TV's got money, I have a feeling there are a few special interest groups that could put that deal to shame. End of the day, she quit, and I think she said it was to spend more time with her family, and now she is making TV shows, going on book tours, and sending her daughter off to Dancing with the Stars. That sure looks like she quit to make money and be famous, to me. Go ahead and say she is less of a sell out than any of us, but NONE of us are trying to become the most powerful person in the world, I expect better than me to be the President.
*This is not an Obama endorsement, I just hope the GOP can put up a presentable option*

I haven't seen anyone say she's qualified because she's made money. I've seen them say (and I've said it), for allegedly being dumb she's done pretty well for herself both in the political arena and financially.
Sorry...but that point just can't be argued with anything remotely resembling logic.
The whole inexperience thing didn't seem to stop Obama. And she's got a shitload more executive experience than he did when he was elected. Of course, the argument could be made that hasn't gotten us a lot...except for problems and debt.
I'm trying to understand why people are defending her so hard?

I can't speak for others, but I like her.
Do I want her as POTUS or VPOTUS, no. Am I disappointed in her quitting her position as governor of AK, you bet.
I still like her.
I knew I should've just steered clear of this thread, I'm not saying the woman is stupid, I'm saying if that's the best the GOP can stir up then they won't get my vote. I'm not going to just vote for someone because they are touted as the opposite of something I hate.
I'm trying to understand why people are defending her so hard?
because the whole idea that she is stupid and unqualified is a fabrication of the liberal media.

And that, ladies and gentleman, is a fact. Frankly, I think that myth is perpetuated by those on the left because they're afraid of what Palin is capable of in terms of attracting voters.
That so many from a site like this parrot the liberal talking points in regards to her intellect and accomplishments is really disappointing...and downright disturbing to me.
And I'll be honest...if the name Obama was substituted in the OP for the name Palin I'd react the same way. I despise the man's ideals, beliefs and policies but respect what he's been able to accomplish in roughly 45 years. It's nothing short of amazing. But I'd still be dancin' a jig if he got hit on the head with a basketball-sized asteroid.

You guys that think she is weak for giving up the job of the governor of Alaska, are crazy. What would you have done?? Take the millions she is making now are stayed put?? It was a very smart move. She is not dumb. She has her face everywhere and is making more money than every single one of us that has contributed to this thread combined. If you are calling her dumb, it reflects your own IQ. I like her a lot but I just wish the Republican party could come up with a man that had balls half the size she has.
It seems to me we are all trying to say about the same thing, just going about it poorly.
-Is she smart enough to be president...maybe, but we'd all hope for better. I think we should always hope for better.
-Is she a success with money...sure as shit, but that doesn't make her qualified for anything other than making money.
-Is she brave...Sure seems like it, or it could be she is so desperate to make money and be famous she has sold out her shame. This is impossible to prove either way.
-Was she smart to quit her job in Alaska...for money reasons, you bet, but for trust reasons, no way, she proved she can be bought.
-Right-leaning enough...in ways yes, in ways no. Money and guns, sure. Freedoms (read, respecting the Constitution) no.
Basically, it seems to me, none of us are excited about her, and most of us wish the GOP or some other group could throw together something we could be proud of, but at the same time the left leaves us wanting as well.
I understand the "better than you" "smarter than me" "richer than any of us" statement just fine, BUT I am not trying to run this country!
I, for one, am tired of "lesser of two evils" and it seems no matter where you turn right now they all do the same crap. Hell, Regan was the president who signed the Machine gun ban in 1986 and Clinton is famous for Welfare reform. Bush created the Patriot Act and Obama made it forever! I don't know who to trust! I was pissed McCain pledged to continue the Patriot act which I see as unconstituational in the extreme and totally in opposition to American ideals, and I was pissed at Obama for a long list of much more obvious reasons!

We can all be friends and at the end of the day, if we chew each other up like this its gonna be real hard to get anywhere. Frankly my biggest concern for the next national election is that it will run a lot like Colorado's Governors race. Dems, GOP, and a large right leaning 3rd party gets you 4 more years of Obama.
