View Full Version : The next one,
OK, after I get enough change in the the coffee can, What should I get next?
Keeping in mind the Military theme I have going
The Choice's;
I'm assuming you meant No4Mk1 and/or No4Mk2 ??
:)
good shooters. I have a no4mk2
It was late,, What can I say.
I even added another option.
oh sure, change the poll AFTER I vote.
I'd get a 1903 first, but either that or the No4mk1 is a good choice.

Marlin, the M44 with the bayonet is cool. At first I wasn't to keen on it but after purchasing my M39, I found an M44 that was SWEET!
I voted the Springfield on your poll, but now that I learned you have an M39, I'd go after an M44. Unless if course you come across a killer deal for a Sprigfield '03 first. Either way you can't go wrong.

I vote for the K-31 for several reasons. One they are just plain cool. Second the action is very smooth. Third the trigger is awesome. Forth they are cheap, Century just had and is going to have another 3 for $207 deal. Fifth they are said to be VERY accurate. Needless to say I have one on the way. I missed the last 3 fer deal and just ordered one from someplace else.
One drawback is ammo is expensive but it is easy to reload for. They shoot .308 cal. bullets.
Hmmmm, .308 bullet's you say.

They are actually .308. bullets. I have been surfing the Swiss websites for several weeks and have learned a bunch. One site even has the manual translated to English for download. Try the Swiss forum on gunboards and these sites for more info.

Lots of reloading info on these sites and friendly folks. Another neat thing about the K-31 is many have tags under the butt plate with the soldiers name and info on it. many folks have actually got in touch with the soldiers who were issued the rifles.
Thank's, Bayonet's also :D

For these rifles are almost as much as the rifles.
Yea, I saw that, Still, I Love Bayonet's

My K-31 came today. Got to look it over but won't pick it up till tomorrow night. Ordered it from militarygunsupply.com/shop/
All matching numbers, No tag (bummer but no big deal) stamped CAI. Walnut stock with LOTS of dents from muzzle to butt. Bluing worn in places but still pretty good. Dated 55 on tang (I am guessing this is the date?) plus marked with a P. Action and trigger are smooth. Bore is dirty but rifling looks real good almost new. Will have to clean it good to make a judgment. I think it will clean up well. As dented up as the stock is I think I will strip it and try and steam out as many dents as I can and re finish it. I think it will turn out to be a nice looking rifle and still show it's history of use. Should have pictures tomorrow night or Sunday. Hopefully a range report Sunday.
And why not an M1917 Enfield? If ya really like bayonets, 17 in. of blade.

O.K. I got it. Yes she is banged up but after a rub down with Old English she don't look as bad. I took the wood off and underneath the metal looks brand new. Man what pretty bluing. Bore cleaned up and now looks about brand new inside. I found a repair in the stock that was done very well. From what I have read the 55 on the tang means it was repaired by an armorer in 1955. I guess that is the repair. From the serial number it was built in 1942. If I knew how to post photos I would.

My vote still goes for the K-31. Mine sure is a shooter and reloading for it is as easy as for any other caliber. Just got to mail order brass.
Yes, Karl.
I keep thinking about that K-31, it is looking better and better. :D

Don't wait too long they are going fast. I got an original sling and muzzle cap for mine and also bought a scout mount. Now I just need a LER scope.
Get the K-31 from Big 5 for $80.00 and order the cap and sling on line......
Ask to see all of the ones they have in stock. Take a bore light, but chances are there will be cosmocrap plugging her up....
If you call around, you can find one of the stores that has a bunch to choose from.
K-31 is a neat rifle, the top extraction is a kick. Mine shoots 2-1/2" groups @ 100yds. Probably better. The kick is mellow too. Plan on refinishing the stock though. The pictures I saw of them were generally of them stuck butt down into a snow bank. They should have the original owners info under the butt plate too. Mine had the guys name and address. Greub Ernst.....

PS,
Marlin, I noticed you are in Westminster too.
If you go the the big 5 on East 120th, the short, dark haired, asst. manager at the gun counter will give you the sale price no matter what. I bought 5 rifles from him, all at the sale prices.
Greg
Mule, thanks for the info, Even though the thread is a Year old and I've had the K31 for about that long. [wink]
Have You been to the newer one at about 92nd and Wadsworth?
They have a decent selection also.

Marlin,
You mean you finaly bought one and never told me? Man I was up to nine of them and one 96/11 but I sold one this month and bought my first Lee Enfield.
Yes, I did. Funny thing this thread is old enough that I have almost everything on it now. The only things lacking are the 1903 and the Arisaka. only because of the employment situation of the last Year.
How do You like the Enfield?

I voted 1903..

The Enfield is great! Its a Frazarkley and in real nice shape. Last couple 3 shot groups were 1 1/4 at 100.
Yet another embarrassing moment....
That's what happens when I'm in the brain dead zone just reading posts. I was playing catch up since I just found the board a few weeks ago.
