I was at my local Pawnshop and they have a Sterling SMG on the shelf. 9mm w/2 mags. It looks to be in pretty good shape. I think they said about $400. It is theirs, but they have to wait the 30 day check period (for a gun that is sold to a dealer) and is not for sale yet.

It has the long bbl (over 16") and has other alterations to it in order to make it legal (fires from a closed bolt). I see a bunch of em on Gunbroker and they are advertised as being imported by Century.

Anybody ever shot one? Wikipedia says that the original design called for a 1' group at 100 yards...how accurate would it be w/the longer bbl and also now firing from the closed bolt?

Thoughts?

One of the guys here on COAR brought a FA Sterling to a north shoot some years back. I got to shoot it and thought it was a sweet gun. Since it was FA I wasn't really shooting for accuracy so I can't speak to that.

I have one made by Wise Lite Arms and sold by Century. My 10 year old loves shooting it. I am impressed by how accurate it is but I have never tried to shoot tight groupings on a paper target.

One warning though, I only shoot new brass through mine (Federal from walmart works without a hitch). When I first bought mine I tried some old steel cased Danish surplus and I had quite an out of battery explosion that also almost took two fingers off. Another warning, don't hold the mag to shoot...in case you shoot cheap ammo and it explodes.[LOL] Anyway, wiselite paid for shipping both ways and fixed the problem. It has been great shooting ever since. $400.00 is a good price too. There is one up here in Ft. Collins at the Mr. Money. I think they want just over $500.00

Good luck.

I had an old English buddy that swore by them, said if you shot one you would buy one. Love to see pics of it if you pic it up. If you don't, tell me where you saw it.
