My Mother has finally realized she needs to learn to protect herself and wants to find a class thats more then a quick 2 or 4 hour class. She has NO experience with firearms of any type and is pretty nervous with them. So we need to find her a good starter class that will take time and go through eveything slowly for her. She is hoping to find something that would take a few weekends with classroom and range time. All I have found is one day courses and neither of us think that will be enough to build her confidence. I would teach her, but its hard to teach family, especially your Mom, and I would rather she got training from someone impartial.
Anybody have any ideas ?
TIA

(wish I had his email but the above page was all I could find)
He often will run a two day Basic Pistol class south of Denver in Ramah.

TIA,
I would recommend a few courses. Have her start with the NRA Basic Pistol course. This is designed with someone who has never held a pistol. Then have her take the NRA Defensive Pistol inside the home, followed by the NRA Defensive Pistol outside the home.
This is a great confidence builder and there are wome's only classes available. If she needs more instruction, then I recommend private lessons after she has taken the Basic Pistol class.
As a side note, I am a NRA Certified Pistol Instructor. I teach the Basic Pistol classes with another instructor who is an active LE officer. If you are interested in class dates, call me at 303-681-1213.
I recommend these classes for your mom whether she takes my classes or someone elses. Training is the key to being confident and comfortable with a firearm.

The indoor range on the east side of the Springs runs a few classes a week.

Too bad that you are way out in the sticks, Cherry Creek Family Shooting Center has a women's only beginners class that is NRA approved once or twice a month.
