View Full Version : Another GunBroker Rant

Ya know, I like to sell a few things on GunBroker (not to mention buy a thing or two) just like the next guy. I take pictures of my things in order to give potential buyers a look at what their hard earned money is buying.
Taking decent pictures and cropping them and resizing them and so forth in order to post them on GunBroker takes a bit of effort.
I was checking one of my items tonight and happened to discover another user, "Diamond", (located right here in Colorado, no less) had stolen my pictures to use on his auction for a like item.
I'll admit...I'm pissed. I sent him an email explaining how much I appreciate him stealing my work and asking if there was anything else I could do to ease his workload.
His name and number are posted on his auction and I'm really tempted to call him up and tell him what a douchebag I think he is.
No wonder I like dogs so much.

watermark your images
Here is a free website...

Water mark it with the same price that you are selling it for as well.

Now that's a good idea to add to the watermark suggestion.
I figured it would make it harder for them to either under sell you, or try to sell something for hugely inflated prices and they'll steal someone else's pictures.

I really like that idea!

Let us know who it is so we can avoid them as buyers.

Just remember if it weren't for you, nothing would ever get done around here, and if it weren't for guys like that other dude, we wouldn't have a super awesome government like we have now. Keep up the good work man. [Tooth]

Unfortunately, he's not hot-linking the pics. He's saving them then reusing them as his own.
I know it ain't the crime of the century. Just pisses me off.

What a Jerk, but what can ya do, just another "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me" scenario, now ya know what you can do to hopefully avoid this type of asshattery in the future.
I went through this almost a decade ago when I was doing high volume stuff on eBay and here's what I did: Host your images with an online host that allows you to have control of your images. When I saw someone else pirating my images I would go to that image and upload something horribly offensive to the same link so that their auction would still display whatever image that link pointed to. Then, just rehost your image at another link and edit your auctions to reflect the new link to the same image. I would immediately report the other seller to eBay for lude activity and 9/10 times their account would get banned or at the minimum suspended. Simple way to rid yourself of your less-than-honest competition as well as protect your images.
Good luck.

Disregard my suggestion then. Watermark your images if it's that big of a deal to you and chalk this up to a lesson learned and nothing lost.
Just watermark with your website url. It sucks and I hope I don't discover it happening to me. 20+ minutes of picturing/editing is a pain that everyone should have to go thru. :D

I learned years ago when it comes to the internet you have to fight fire with fire because being diplomatic gets you nowhere.
It actually appears now that all images uploaded to gunbroker are automatically watermarked with Gunbroker.com - (username). That saves some hassle.

Greetings Peter,
Peter Bali... I'm trying to remember you. I think we met at the Donkey Show back in 2004, right? I was pretty drunk on tequila, not to mention all whacked out from sniffing coke from that hooker's crack. Plus, those peyote joints are something else! So, please forgive my memory.
Wow, it sounds like you've done pretty good for yourself to say the least! Good job!
Thank you for remembering me!
What are our next steps?
Your friend,
Kadlin
