View Full Version : Silver Bullet Pistol Range
Silver Bullet Shooting Range
5901 W 38th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80212
Phone: (720) 898-0267
Range Price: $15 per person
Number of Lanes: 5
Gun Rentals: $17 (wide variety)
Smoking: outside only
Membership: $150 for 13 visits
I scouted this range out but they were closed at the time. It appears to be a VERY nice range. The range fees reflect that fact though. They are the most expensive range fees in the Metro Denver area for a public range.
I called and spoke with the owner to get the information provided here. He was very nice on the phone and was optimistic about having just about any handgun that I might want to rent. I've yet to test him on it though. The rental prices are also pretty high.
They don't appear to have a retail setup there so don't plan on doing much gun shopping while you wait for your lane. I was impressed that there is a very comfortable waiting area (lounge). It even has MAGAZINES. I guess you need to make people comfortable when you only have 5 lanes.
I'll update here when I get a chance to shoot at the range.

I went to this one once, a long time ago. Thing's may have changed since then but, the impression I came away with was if you weren't a member of LE or renting one of his gun's, He really did not want you there. I haven't been back. Like I said though, thing's may have changed since.

If I recall way back, it used to be called X-Ring.

I shoot there about once a month, Only 5 lanes, hand guns or 22 rifles
only. CCW classes and firearm safety classes are available.
Nice people, clean place, Busy at times.
Bill :)
I prefer shooting outside, but Silver Bullet is a good place to have during the winter.
My wife & I took our CCW class there and thought they did a very good job, especially with a lot of the legal issues.
I was turned off at the range. I am disabled and they would not let me sit, and fire my guns. I was told I could lean against the wall of the lane but could not have a chair. I took the Co. CCW shooting part there only because that is where the inst. had set it up. The K2 however will bend over backwards to help.

I've been using this range for the past 3 years or so. About a year ago they said that they were going to be replacing the back wall to allow high-powered rifles. I think he mentioned something like a water wall system. Anyway, apparently that plan got scratched because the person that quoted them a certain price, flaked on them. Anyway, I think with enough calling and nagging, they may look in to it again.
One of the few indoor ranges left in the area. I shoot ther every now and again, as they were once my alternative to K2. I'll echo the sentiments of others. It's a pretty decent range, but they're a tad pricey and it would be nice if they were able to accomodate something larger than .22 rifles. Fine range for the handguns though, and their staff has always been kind and courteous during my experiences. I'm thinking about having my wife take one of their training courses.

The backstop is not rated for rifle or even for .44 jacketed. I took a CCW course back there in 2000 when it was under different ownership. The new owners have put some money into it, but I think the economics to justify installing a snail trap isn't there. They have done some improvements on ventillation which in the past was downright dangerous. I felt like a Kentucky coal miner after shooting for an hour.
I wish they would expand to a 10 or 15 lane facility. At that size, and with a good, clean facility they should be able to make a profitable go of it. There's a lack of indoor or outdoor public ranges on that side of town, especially to the north given the demise of Mile High from urban encroachment.
I go there regularly but I live close. You can get a 1 yr membership for $50 for the first month and after that it's $30 a month. That gives you unlimited use of the range and member prices on all targets, ammo and gun rentals. I'm at the point where I go at least once a week so it's well worth it for me. Their ammo prices are a little steep but not too bad if you're a member. If you bring your own ammo it has to be FMJ and no steel casings allowed. If they reload the brass they don't sell the reloads. All of their ammo is factory. You can bring your own targets, too. They've only got 6 guns for rent. Rental prices for members is $12. Here's the breakdown if I remember correctly:
Ruger .40
Springfield 1911
Springfield XD .40
Sig 226 9mm
.357 revolver
.22lr pistol (either a Browning or a Ruger I can't remember)
They have a display case with a bunch of guns for sale but the prices aren't that good.
As for the lanes, if they get really busy they'll limit you to one hour but I've never been kicked out and sometimes I'm there for 2 or 3 hours. Once I was asked to finish up soon but they never pressed me on it and I ended up staying when the guy next to me left almost right after that. Even if you do have to sit out you can just wait for the next lane to open up. The lanes move fast if you end up having to wait. The longest I've waited is 10 or 15 minutes and yes they have lots of magazines to read :). It's got kind of a run down feel to it but what indoor range doesn't? Everything works and the people are friendly. The price is great if you live in the metro area and you don't want to drive to BFE just to pop off a few rounds.

I was curious what the range offerings in the Denver area looked like, so I dropped by there Friday, August 18th to check them out.
Here's the scoop:
They have 5 lanes. All 5 lanes are visible from the main store through large windows. They have a table and some chairs (and various magazines to read) in the store for people to use while waiting for a lane.
The only guns they have for sale are all used/consignment guns. The lady I talked to said that she could order a new gun if I knew what I wanted (I didn't tell her that I already had my own gun).
$15 per range visit, unlimited time (unless there are people waiting and then you are limited to one hour).... OR: you can get a "regular membership" for $150 and you get 13 "free" visits (works out to $11.54 per visit). With a membership, you can call ahead to reserve a lane. When I was there, there was only one lane in use -- not sure how busy it gets on weekends, though.
9mm is $12 per box of 50 for non-members, $9.60 per box for members. In other words, get your target ammo at Wal*Mart.
Hours: M-F noon - 7pm, Sat & Sun 10a - 7p
My overall impression of the place wasn't that good, to be honest. Seemed kinda dirty. Not much gun or accessory selection. High range fees. Outrageous ammo prices.

At the end of the month they'll be closing down for a week to install a rifle backstop.

well I was there a couple of years ago. They wouldn't let me shoot my
CZ 52 or my Tokerev so I just shot my Steyr M40. It was OK he was a
a little upset that I didn't clean up my brass. With the price of brass now
he probably likes the free brass. The public ranges are so limited now I just take what I can get.

New backstop is in! [pirate]
Shot surplus .223 there last week. [postal]
It's still $15/person, apparently unlimited time/# of guns (I had three). I forgot to ask how hot a caliber they could handle, but if you call they'll tell ya.

They still need to replace the target carriers. The one on lane 5 is annoying at best, and I think 4 was flaky last time too. Owner (?) said they'd been getting a lot busier lately, so maybe they'll make enough $ to change 'em soon.

Rifles?!?
I love it. I will have to check them out tonight.
First time I ever used this range. I honestly had a pleasant experience. I sighted in my new optic on my AR-15 along with the MBUS sights. Over all, I shot about 65 rounds, picked up my brass and was thanked for my business on the way out the door. They had a small selection of firearms for sale, and the ammo prices were high (which is why I brought my own), but I can't think of any local range who doesn't have outrageous prices on ammunition. Their range fee of $16 is about par for the metro area, doesn't mean I like paying it, it just is what it is. From my observations, they were very helpful with the other patrons and gladly assisted me when my wait time of 15 minutes was up. I will definitely visit this range again.
How was the lighting, temperature, and ventilation?

I was there a week ago. The ventilation seems better now. It was warm outside so I can't comment on their air temp.
Some rules to be aware of:
No rapid fire (shots must be 1 second apart)
No aluminum or steel case ammo such as Blazer or Wolf.
No steel core ammo.
No drawing from holster (unless you're a LEO)
The turnover there must be fairly high. In the past the owner has allowed us to shoot full auto on several occasions. Unfortunately there is no written policy so the counter guys (who don't have the historical perspective) interpret the no rapid fire rule to apply to F/A.
I didn't mind the ventilation, of course with any indoor range, it could always be better. The lighting wasn't bad (didn't have a problem seeing my MBUS sights or the adjustment knobs on my optic.

Stopped in today, busy as all heck! Friendly as always, waited an hour or so and came back. Dang near got right on the range due to some others needing to shoot rifle and the center lane was in use, so we got their time slot.
No questions about my reloads which functioned fine, no issues with controlled faster firing and them complaining.
I really need to consider their annual membership.

Don't know, not sure who the fellow is with the tats and accent? Nice fellow though, if that's you, appreciate it. Son and I turned and burned some ammo on the range to the next group could get on a lane. Glad to see the place busy!
1 Clown Zombie down and one other down. Sorry to say they didn't survive.

I have been here a few times and loved it every time. I really need to look in to their memberships too.
Hopefully this weekend I will be there with my sister to let her shoot her first gun. Should be a fun visit.
Also a little tid bit. Since the closet indoor range to me is the shootist (I live by wads and c470) I prefer to shoot at the Silver Bullet.

Next time I will bring a rusty razor blade so you can slit your wrist's.[Coffee]
Good bunch of folks @ SB.[Beer]
Yes even you Bellavitte[Beer](Tats and an accent, I think he's Irish.....)
My wife and I were there last Saturday and told the wait would be 1.5 hours but it was no more than 20 minutes. Ventilation does seem to be improved over the previous time I was there (I did not blow black snot afterward for once), which is good as the ventilation was probably the only complaint me or my friends have ever really had there.
