I ask this here because I believe it to be to BS to put in the ccw section. A friend of mine, a non card carrying member of society, was told by an LEO friend of his that when the county your card was issued in changes sherrifs your card is no longer valid because it was issued by the previous guy? I have never heard of this and I have had ccw's in 2 different states, is it maybe a certain "county" thing? The LEO is state patrol. I dont remember the pre=shall issue days so maybe its an old school thing?

I thought I had heard stories of asshole sheriffs trying to pull this over on people, but when it came down to lawyers, the sheriff got put in his place.

Its my understanding that prior to CO going Shall Issue back in 02 that your permit was only good while the sheriff that signed it was in office but that it no longer is the case.

I also have no idea if that's true since its based on hearsay and not any actual reading of the law.

yes when the CCW was issued by local county CLEO/Sheriff. with the states shall issue being state wide compliant, regardless of your local sheriff wanting to or not. The new law sets the time frame for every 5 years? before renewal is required. tell the "friendly in the know LE" to keep writing parking tickets. we're all safer for it.

Roger that. I called BS but they argued with me so I thought it might have been in the old days.

I can almost guaranty that every person in the last 100 years to have died from cancer, had come into contact with law enforcement at some point in their youth.

The LEO may have gotten confused with the commission cards that the SO personnel have, which is also their concealed carry permit. It must be signed by the current Sheriff.

I don't know how this continues to propagate, but I've been told by LOTS of folks this very same thing. Some of those folks even have CCW permits.

There was a thread on here where a member went through this same BS with his dad or something.

I was told that when I originally got my CCW and it's term expired at the time of the election term of the new or incumbant Sheriff. I didn't realize it had changed either. I was LEO many moons ago. Some of us have had CCW's for more years than some of you are alive. The news that it only changed in '02 is just like last week for some of us.

This is why we need a State issued CCW card not by county like Utah does IMO

Oh the joys and wonders of those who fail to educate themselves regarding the laws and regulations they are sworn to uphold and the pure ignorance of those who fail to educate themselves regardless. The Erronet is fairly worthless in so many senses, but State and Federal law isn't one of them. Then again that requires reading comprehension.. a sadly lacking facility of many of the population.

It would save tax payers so much money if it went in this direction. Arizona is this way too. Takes less than a month to get your CCW because it's all centrally located and they are doing the background checks. With the current system they have to check with CBI and they are understaffed. One central CCW unit with CSP and the long waits and confusion are over.
