What are the differences? In what rank would you put the major players & why?

A hobbyist AR would be found in my safe, whereas a Pro would be found in somebody like say Hoser's safe.

I'm honestly not understanding the question at hand.

Colt is more or less the standard to which manufacturers are compared to.
Everything on a 6920 is Mil-Spec which means the components meet Military contract specifications. Components are Non Destructive tested (Magnafluxed).
Some manufacturers will manufacture their components to exceed Mil- Specs or to the tight end of the tolerance range.
LMT-Noveske-J&P are a couple of upper tier manufacturers that come to mind this early.

The whole is equal to the sum of the parts. Let's take firecontrol parts for example. Colt Hammer, Trigger and sear are forged prior to machining. Even the trigger and hammer pins are centerless ground tool steel.
Lower tier manufacturers will use cast parts instead of forged, non spec steel and aluminum alloys etc.
I have heard of Taiwainese parts in supposed US made rifles. DPMS comes to mind.

Hobbyist AR can go several directions in tacticool, accuracy, or just a plinker with a bunch of toys mounted on it and usually just sits in a safe. A Pro AR is a regular AR in the hands of someone trained to use it to kill and it has a "few" "usage" marks on it... hehe.....

I don't understand the question either...

Love the zip tie on the acog! -- one of the true indicators of 'Pro gun', the other being duct tape. Actually, if you could see close, you'd note it's Swan A.R.M.S. #19 mounting system for the Acog. During his first tour his group quickly learned anything mounted with Swan QD's was simply asking to be lost.

Thats because anything and everything made by ARMS is pure junk and should be avoided at all costs.

Not everything. I prefer their #18 over the Brookfield, but I've broken, worn out several sets of #22, and a #32. I have 2 #32 mounts left, and when they break/wear out, I'll replace them with LaRue.

Since nobody else has pointed out the obvious- many pro "ARs" have a 3rd position on the selector switch that is not present on hobby ARs

of course, these are technically not ARs, either

Eh, I disagree... I know several "pros" who use Ar's without the fun switch. That's not nessecarily defining in a Pro vs Hobbyist.....

Love the zip tie on the acog!

When I was in Iraq, it was a requirement by my unit to tie down the external equipment on your rifle so you don't bump it into something and have it fall off. We used 550 cord or zipties.

Also, wouldn't a "Hoppyist" pack a Winchester 94 (http://www.americaremembers.com/Products/HCTRI/HCTRI.asp) instead of an AR?

I posted this from my phone, and I hate typing on my phone, so I have to rely on everyone's mind reading ability! lol [ROFL1]

I was really just wondering what separates the garbage from the reliable ones and where the major manufacturers rank comparatively. Hobbyist & Pro weren't the right terms to use.

Excellent - I appreciate the details. Thanks! [Beer]
