This thing was made looong before I was born but it has found its way into my hands.

I dont know anything about it but Im hoping to get it working again.

Pulling back the slide doesnt cock the gun but it does if I fully take the slide off.

Anyone know whats wrong?

Thanks much

My first guess would be wear/damage to the sear. Second guess would be wear/damage to the firing pin/striker. High Standards are good pistols but are a little quirky.

My newer 1970 era High Standard developed a worn slide that had lots of up and down play. I was getting feeding problems.
Really old stuff like yours is hard to diagnose long distance.
Would your slide to frame fit be sloppy enough so it won't cock the hammer?
I peaned the slide rails down and its now good to go.
