Be aware, my buddy just caught someone breaking in his shed in Parker. He has some land and has a big shed where he parks his vehicles.

Luckily he didn't take anyones life, but they did get away.

It's that time of the year where people are getting desperate for money/gifts/goods/etc

Last night around 1830, my dog went to the door leading out to the back yard, and was going crazy, growling and barking and what not (which she NEVER does unless something is wrong), at first I didn't think too much of it, because we have roomates, so I figured maybe one of them has a guest or something, and they are bringing their dog in from outside. Well after not hearing anybody upstairs, and realizing the room mates hadn't even got home yet, I went out back with the flashlight and dog, but didn't see anything. Fortunately with me working day shift, and my room mate working swing shift, there are only a couple hours out of the day, that someone is not home, and between my dog a GSD, and my room mates an Argentine dogo out back during the day, there shouldn't be a whole lot of opportunity for intruders, however I still remain diligent.

Yeah Arapaho Country Sherifs as an alerts thing you can sign up for and there have been 19 day time robberies within 5 miles of my place. I really hope that some dumb ass doesn't try that shit in my neighborhood. 4 cops within 5 houses and several of us "enthusiast" in the AO as well. Will not end well for someone trying to break in around here.

Then again the alert gave me a great excuse to lecture the Teenagers about not jacking around and leaving shit unlocked in the house like their forgetful selves often do. Threatened them with grounding the next time I find an unlocked door or window after they've been home :)

Christmas shopping for lowlifes. When I was a kid, my sister's and my bike that were chained together in the carport got stolen on Christmas Eve.

Can you imagine giving your kids stolen goods for Christmas?? Why don't these people swallow their pride, go down to the local fire station and ask to be included in their toy drive because they can't afford to get their kids presents this year.

Because that requires work and lowlifes don't want to work... Though I honestly believe it takes more stamina/whatever to steal chained bikes than it would to stock a shelf or something else...

The problem is, people want something and aren't willing to wait. Patience is a lost trait along with the degradation of morals and ethics in society. I.E. I've been saving up for over a decade for two specific items, and everytime I get close to enough to have the money, something happens and the finances must be diverted.... However, just because I want it NOW doesn't mean I'm going to go steal it... Patience, morals.

I'll bet they'll find the culprits are are "kids". Teens looking for stuff they can easily sell off.

I'm glad my neighbor is home during the day and is very vigilant... Not to mention my 150 lb dog!

I installed video surveillance, watches the perimeter of my house. It won't stop them from breaking the windows of my vehicles, but I will have video of them doing it. Plus if I see them on camera, I don't have to approach them, just dial 911.
Video cameras are just a deterrent, however they can let you know what is going on outside. Six camera system cost me about $400. PM for details.

That's what I told her. I said that if I had a junky, broken down car in the lot for months, she'd tow it, but at least I could get it back, unlike my detector that she threw in the trash. I think that for the most part she does okay, but I don't appreciate her bitch attitude.

I spent 10K putting cameras on my shop yard, caught them backing over the locked gate with the rear of their PU, hooking up to a Polaris Gator and towing down the street at 6 pm in traffic. Got them and license plate on camera, Adams County Sheriff asked if we knew the faces cause the plates were stolen and didn't match the vehicle, SOL
If they want what you got, it's gone!

She came to your house, took a motion detector (and I'm assuming a light too?) off of your house, and threw it away? What the fuck gives anybody the right to do that? HOA or not, I'd be making her life a miserable hell for that.

Is this a house in a residential neighborhood? Or a townhouse or apartment?

Apartment.

I was going to go to the next meeting and complain about the broken pipe in the lawn behind my place. Then when they asked where it was, I'd tell them that I would have gladly told them before she threw my shit away. Now she can find out in several months when the foundation of the entire building cracks or something.

Not to Hijack but Stu your situation is the exact reason I would never live someplace with a HOA or Covenants.
My brother in law used to live in a condo that had a Nazi HOA. He was checking the oil in his 68 High Country Special Mustang and one of the asshat board members came down and told him there was no working on cars in the lot and especially on an old "junker" like his. The BIL said he wanted to drop the guy, especially considering his HCS is immaculate, 100 percent original, unrestored and on the national registry.

The gift wrapped trash is great but I can think of some other "Presents" to leave a thief. Like a Rattlesnake or the spider from "Arachnaphobia". A "gift" from the aforementioned 150# dog perhaps.

Thieves suck.

I had a guy in base housing years ago who had 2 Rottweilers that he NEVER picked up after. I'd take my dog out for a walk at night behind the carports and would inevitably step in the poop.

I confronted him a few times about it and saw that it was going nowhere so I talked to the Housing Office. They told me to work it out with the Rotty owner or they'd throw us BOTH out of housing. That just pissed me off.

So, I finally decided to pick up his dog's poop with my pooper-scooper. One pile per night. And then, when I knew no one was watching, I'd sling that poop right against his back door and run inside.

After the third time I did it, he came and confronted me. I played ignorant to the events but suggested that it might be someone fed up with him not cleaning up after his dogs. I had to do it a couple more times and then I noticed that he actually started picking up after his dog.

I guess his wife got sick of seeing and smelling dog shit across the back of her quarters - particularly across her back door.

The point is that I had tried to be reasonable. I tried to use the system to resolve the issue. Both times I failed and felt like I had been smacked for doing so. I knew I could get away with a little pay-back without anyone being able to prove (suspect yes, prove no) I had anything to do with it. And while it was disgusting and unsanitary, there was no real harm to the people or quarters - nothing that a garden hose couldn't resolve.

Mess with me and mine and I will find a way to even the score.

Stuart - threatening the HOA with a lawsuit against them and the female board member for theft and menacing (under CO law, if you feel menaced, that's all that's required to be guilty), and creating an intimidating living environment might get them to (a) get you a new light, and (b) get them to put a leash on the b!tch. Since she's a board member and they allow her to get away with such behavior they de facto endorse this behavior, or are at least complicit in it.

My landlord was pretty pissed about it and offered to help, but I don't think it is really worth it. I think she does a decent job otherwise with the place, and wouldn't want someone worse than her. I think her being a total bitch really helps her keep the other shitty neighbors in check.

What pissed me off is that it wasn't just a single unit motion detector. They are battery powered and signal a battery powered, hand held unit. There are three of them, and they are supposed to be used for hunting. You set them up in a triangle and which ever one is triggered, shows up on it's corresponding light on the receiver unit so you know which side the game is coming in. It was some start up company and the guy was selling the whole deal for an introductory price of only $25. I have no idea how to find the product again, or how much it would be to replace now.

Easy revenge idea I might have know someone to employ in the past on people who have earned the reward. --- Take some lunchmeat and put it in a plastic baggie outside in the sun for 2-3 days. Wipe the slime that forms on the underside of door handles for car, house etc.
Nice thing is there is no way to ID the slime, attach you to it or know what the heck is going on. And its super nasty but not damaging as well.

This time of year is horrible for stupid people doing dumb shit. I can't believe half the crap that happens. I live on a street lined with townhouses. The set next to us is notorious for having low life scum because the owner of the complex rents to anyone who will pay his fees. Usually illegals or fellons, no one stays in it for very long because they go to jail, or get deported. This last month 6 places on my strip have already been broken into. I am friends with a few of the sheriffs so they let me in on what they know in my area. It'm glad my wife supports my gun habbits and even participates. At least I know if I am not there and something happens, she knows what she is doin. She doesn't like my 45's, so we ordered her a Walther PK380. Whoever is doin the B&E's better watch their asses...[UZI]

Stuart, I'd be pissed if I were you. That is your personal stuff and even an HOA can't, or shouldn't be able to touch your belongings without at least giving you a warning. I like most of the ideas the other have given you, a nice flaming bag of shit tossed, I like tossed, at the door sounds good [Twist]. No seiously though, you should call the head of the hoa and make them do something about that. That is BS and you shouldn't have to deal with it.

The best part is that she doesn't even live here. She is very quick to point out how much work it is and how she gets paid $0 for it. Oh well, I'm mostly over it. Except I get pissed when ever I see her now. On my way out today I saw her, right after making my last post.

The guys that she actually had take my thing down are cool though. I talked to them about it, and they straight up told me that she told them "Take that down!" She didn't even bother to take down the mounting bracket either. It was held in with 1 screw that took 2.7 turns of a screw driver for me to take down. That's what made me the most mad. I took down the one on my back porch too because I didn't want that one stolen as well; even though it was up for like another 8 months without being touched.

So, back to the OP....

I understand that Colo Spr has also been experiencing a higher-than-normal amount of home invasions/burglaries.

No one ever visits my home except my daughter and my sons girlfriend. They know to announce themselves loudly before coming in (I've got my daughter calling when she's on her way now because I had a dream that I accidentally shot her thinking she was a burgler when she showd up in the middle of the night -- again, it was just a dream. But now she calls ahead to ensure it doesn't happen for real!).

Last year, I got up to investigate a noise I thought I heard. I was carrying my gun in my hand, with it pointed toward the floor. I was walking down the hall and stopped next to my dryer. The dryer was apparently between cycles because as I was standing next to it, it suddenly started going again and gave me quite a start. I was proud of myself for not shooting my foot off or something.
