View Full Version : Anyone into cutting their own x-mas tree?
We have a few acres with "natural" ponderosa's and pine's if anyone is interested. I'd guess that there might be 5 or so that would be good for the harvesting. Their not trimmed and prunned or anything, just nice sized natural trees. The first Few people that would like to come and cut one can have them if their proud, gun owning Americans, and members of this forum. I need to be thinning out the property some and this would help. The Blue Spruce's are not available. I like looking at them in the yard.
Oh, and merry christmas.
that's a hell of a good offer for the forum, thumbs up to you.
I'd take you up on it if I had a place to put a live tree.

Cut it and kill it. Then it would be a dead christmas tree. I can loan out a 12ga and you could shoot it down...[ROFL2]

LOL, i've cut down a couple aspens via .45acp. They were in the way of my gun range, and it was either that or a chainsaw, and well, I didn't have a chainsaw with me that day. It is mighty kind of you to make that offer to the fine folks here.

Thats a hell of a deal!!!! We only need a small one this year or I would be all over this. My hat is off to you and your offer. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I'd be up for it if there was one small enough to fit in my trunk, or with the seats laid down. It'd be a good surprise for the misses and the baby.
Have you ever tried cutting down one of those big trees with an axe? I'm curious how much work it'd be.
All the trees of wich I speak would fit into a pickup. I wouldnt cut down anything bigger for an x-mas tree. In fact, a few are on the small side.
Stuart, where do you get your energy? It has never crossed my mind to cut down a 100' tree with an axe, but your more than welcome to give it a shot. LOL.
When I was a kid down in Arizona my Grandpa used to send me out to the woods near our place with an axe to thin the trees that he marked out and then cut them to fire wood. As I got older I realized it was just to get me to shut up and go to sleep. It was a lot of work but I loved it. He probably loved watching a 12-15 year old pass out. I may be adding this to my parenting bag of tricks some day.
Its doable, at least with pine, (thankfully for me, he only worried about the pine) but you will sleep soundly.
I must have been dropped a lot as a kid because I just felt like I should sharpen up the old axe and go cut some beetle killed trees down! I may need some coffee

still have some tree that need to be thinned?
I know right? I've worn myself out just trying to chop a dried up log in half, that was only like 4" in diameter. I couldn't even tell you why I want to try and cut down a living tree at least twice as big around. Probably just one of those things where you want to do it the hard way so you can appreciate the easy way.

Yep, come and get it.

Just FYI you can also cut a tree at the forest service sites for just $10. We have been cutting our own for 18 years up here near Red Feathers.
