I was told today by a guy who we came across hunting that you can legaly tag a buck as a doe, if the horns, are smaller than 5". Is this shit true, or bull shit?

I actually shot a buck when I had a doe tag my first time deer hunting.

300 yards, had my buddy with me. no antlers at all. I take the shot, drop the deer, we go get it, drag it across the river and start to gut it only to find she is a he...has NUTS![Help]

I freaked out thinking I would get in trouble but my buddy knew and pointed out to me the law. less than 5 inches is considered a buck.

this deer didn't have anything protruding other than tiny little nubs no bigger than the very end of your pinky.

I believe the tags read "Antlerless" . At least thats how the deer and elk tags read. My buck pronghorn tag just said buck if I remember correctly. If the doe pronghorn tags read antlerless, then I'd shoot without horns. IMO

So if you shoot a buck less han 5" it can indeed be tagged as a doe?
