Here's my list of firearms I would like to own (most may never happen but whatever). I don't curently own any, and may or may not get into any type of hunting, so these are all either for collector value (not resale, just my own personal fascination with older firearms) or based on what I understand about their technical merits (mmmm HK) in order that I'd be most likely to buy them:
Ruger 10/22
Ruger 45/22
M-1 Garand
1911 (either Kimber or SIG)
some form of pump-action 12ga shotgun
M1903?
Winchester lever action replica? (in .22?)
AR-15 (Bushmaster, simply cause their website is the most useful)
H&K USP (caliber?)
HK-94
AR-10 (or AK)
.50bmg rifle
And now beyond the AR15.com post, I'll elaborate why I want these (at some point, I could barely afford the 10/22 I saw at Gander Mountain this afternoon).
Ruger 10/22 - basic plinking, cheap ammo, fun to modify, easy to get back into the swing of things with.
Ruger 45/22 - same as the 10/22, aditionally my wife said something about wanting a pistol.
M-1 Garand - one of the alternate weapons in a WWII based game called Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory, I like the function, easy (dis)assembly (I've seen a video online somewhere about how to fieldstrip and clean it), and that ubercool *pling**pling**pling**pling**pling**pling**pling** pling**TING* sound as you empty the mag (or is it the clip on a M-1?). Inexpensive (compared to an AR-15) from the CMP, and truly an important part of American history.
1911 - The default pistol in the above game, but a true work of genious from Mr. Browning (according to what I've heard from people who know such things) and my hands are plenty big enough to handle a .45acp over a 9mm
pump action 12ga - utility pure and simple, I love multifunction anything, and a weapon that can shoot slugs and shot is cool in my book. I've always thought that skeet/trap/clay (not sure what the difference is) looks fun. I'm looking towards a Mossberg 500, but a Remington 870 at the right price wouldn't be turned down.
M1903 - Same hisorical reasons as the M-1, but less attached to it as a piece of history - optional unless I find one at a really good deal.
Winchester lever action - Sorry, I was just done watching Deadwood when I wrote this list. After talking to some people about it, I'd probably get it in .30-30 instead of .22, and possibly even use it for deer hunting (which one friend in PA does with his)
AR-15 - duh. I mean, seriously, do I have to explain why I want one? The choice of Bushmaster wasn't soley based on the website, but after looking all of the major ones over I figured they're all about the same WRT reliability, accuracy, etc. The Bushmaster website, while not being the best looking (ugh ugly colors and bad navigation) had the most information on it, including a knowledge base with troubleshooting, full manuals, and other instructions and information. ArmaLite and Colt failed to provide any information I didn't already know about the AR-15.
H&K USP - Default pistol in a little modern-set antiterrorist game called CounterStrike, I've also spent a lot of time reading stuff on hkpro.com and like the way H&K builds their stuff.
HK-94 - The semiauto version of the mp-5, unbelieveably expensive and super hard to get ahold of. Pipe Dream. Again, I just like H&K stuff.
AR-10/AK-74 - For some reason I thought the AK fired the same 7.62mmNATO that the AR-10 and other .308 rifles fire, but it's a different 7.62mm round. I'm not sure if I'd ever get up to this range for assault rifles, or if I'd start moving towards large bolt action calibers for hunting, but this is probably 15 if not 20 years in the future.
.50bmg rifle - Again, pipe dream, but the idea of being able to hit something from 2 clicks away makes the little boy in me (which, lets face it, is on the surface of me more often than not) all tingly inside. I'd never buy one, I'd never be able to afford to feed one, but damn if I wouldn't like to shoot one and see if I could hit paper at 1km.
Anywho, there's what I'd like, some more important than others to me (the M-1 would be important for me to get soon cause they don't have many left) and some I'll probably never get.
Feel free to correct me if my reasoning's wrong or if I'm misinformed, but I'll take personal preferences with the appropirate ammounts of NaCl.
