View Full Version : mags
got some standard us issued 30rd steel mags in a deal, and all 5 fit like shit. Is there anything I can do to help this or am I just shit out of luck>[Bang]
I'd assume other mags fit ok and it's just a flute that these are out of spec for your magwell. Likely easier just to resell them, but I guess you could try skimming them with Devcon or a JB weld type of material and then I have seen aluminum welding sticks where you could add some material and file to fit. Just an idea never tried it.
I'm not sure if you mean the fit is too tight or too loose. Have you tried them thorugh your gun to see if they work anyway? Might be worth a try.

I have never heard of mags not fitting well. Very interesting. Is there anything stuck inside of your magwell? Is there any damage to the magazines? Either way very strange to come across AR mags that are not working.

Oh I've read about it, usually on the tight side of things. Somethings out of spec likely and it's probably his lower though it would be much better if it was just some defective cheap mags made in Pakistan.
I have already sold the mags, and got some magpul, they fit/release like a glove.

Well then, what this says is the wobbley mags where likely under spec as PMags tend to either fit perfect or at times be just a hair tight in some mag wells. I can't recall ever hearing of a sloppy fit with PMags.
GI contract mags have an aluminum body not steel . If the mags were steel they were either comercial or imported . The issue was more than likley the mag and not the rifle as there is history of P mags not fitting out of spec lowers which according to the OP work fine .
I bought some 20 round mags from Cabelas years ago that were too big to fit a colt and Rock River gun. They were just shit mags hated'em. Followers stuck constantly when you could get them into the gun. I think they were Triple K mags. Got some P mags and problem free so far. In fact all my (good) aluminum mags now are just ammo holders while varmint hunting with a bolt gun.
