I've said in the past that illegals should be able to gain citizenship if they honorably serve our country first. I believe that has a chance at building some patriotism in them (maybe). Going to college however, would mostly do the opposite.

While I agree that the path to citizenship should include service, I completely dissagree with illegal immigrants becoming citizens in this manner, since they are all felons to begin with (since they came here illegally).

This is amnesty, plain and simple. This act by the House will encourage more illegals to come here, regardless of the Senate's decision. I hope the Senate can hold it off.

The Dream act. With everyone having a different idea of a dream. My Dream Act has everything to do with Machine Guns being demoted to rifles and pistols. At the very least open the registry again. And it would have nothing to do with giving illegal aliens amnesty.

Actually if it was just military service and not college I'd be for this.

Children of illegals committed no crime (their parents did) but giving them a free college education (because you know it will end up being that) and then free citizenship is a crock and not anywhere near the same thing as demanding two years of military service.

If you're willing to fight (and possibly die) for this country I have no problem with fast tracking your citizenship.

The Senate just voted 59-40 to table the DREAM Act illegal alien bailout cloture vote. It’s been “vitiated,” to use Senate parlance. They’ll take up the House-passed version next week.

Yep, it will probably be back next week though. I just don't think they have the votes. It will be interesting to see what GOP Senators vote for this, a few did a couple years ago.

You are absolutely correct. I used the term felon without thinking about it, and this type of hyperbole only weakens arguments.

The DREAM act is one of the most disturbing economic "fixes" I have ever seen. How does continuing to saturate an already saturated job market improve the position of the unemployed. All it would do is drive down wages as everyone will work for less. Dumb but probably intentional.
