So, I was having coffee with a buddy at the Starbucks in Highlands Ranch this past Sunday and we both observed a white male come in order, walk past us to go to the bathroom and back and he had an obvious bulge on his right hip in the shape of a handgun. He was wearing a simple long sleeved shirt that was too tight and imprinted pretty badly. He had a folding knife in his right front pocket.

My buddy and I couldn't decide if he was newbie cop or a CCW holder or possibly someone without a CCW of some sort. We couldn't decide if we wanted to contact him to inform him of his faux paus, but we elected to ignore it and go on with our conversation.

Was that anyone from here? If so, GET LARGER SHIRTS!

Would you let someone know if they were being so obvious?

Nope, not me but I believe you would be 100% correct by just ignoring it.

You should've told him. It would freak him out into being more careful.

Usually it is people that didnt spend the money for a good CCW class that covered CCW, or they just dont care (me sometimes) [Beer] I have had people aproach me asking questions about my work that obviously didnt know how to carry. Maybe it was someone here from Greeley? A year or so ago a guy comes up to me in a restaurant parking lot talking to me, from a bout 30 feet away I see he has an XD in an IWB right side with nothing but an unbuttened shirt covering it and as he walked the gun stuck out. Normally it might have alarmed me but I was in a hurry to get a breakfast burrito, and he was a smaller framed older guy.

It wasn't open and it would fall under concealed carry, which would have been a violation of law if he did not have a CCW. Not the best thing to do in front of two cops.

I try to avoid, but I usually don't worry too much if I do imprint a little

If he did have a CCW, it wouldn't violate any law that he was carrying so obviously? For some reason I thought it did.

Edit: I think I've just been super anal about imprinting. [Coffee]

When I lived in Las Vegas we were warned about "inciting a riot" if we were to scare some old lady in a tourist town. My class covered everything from what to wear, how to act, what to say as well as when, where and how to shoot. They covered different holsters, different guns etc. They even had a sims shoot house we had to go through.

But after 10years of packing in multiple states I have gotten lazy sometimes. I dont even care if Walmart sees it anymore [ROFL1] Course in 10 years I have never been asked, checked, harassed or even noticed that I can tell. Even my Grandma can hug me without knowing.

Probably just a "Noob" with a wardrobe problem. When I worked at the shop we used to see it all the time with new permit holders. You can tell them pretty easily after a while-they are always touching/brushing it, reassuring themselves that yes, they are carrying a firearm and yes, it is still there.[ROFL1]

I would say that I am a medium framed guy and prefer 1911's as my carry piece. Holster selection is critical and just like a firearm, you get what you pay for. I have been able to carry without printing in a T-shirt in the summer thanks to Bianchi and Galco.

Does this holster make my ass look fat?[Muaha]

I'm a System Administrator and I'm required to drink Mt. Dew. It's a Union rule and State law. You can look it up.

Let's try to get this back on track and far far away from fat rolls and big asses on dudes. [Tooth]

I don't really care much if I print either. You wont see me wearing underarmor out and about but you get the idea. I have been made once in four years of carrying and it was by my wife's uncle. He's also a CCW holder and saw me get out of the car at his house and my shirt came up over the gun, I was being careless because I was in the driveway of a family member. I think people are way too paranoid about "getting made". The only person that will notice is someone like you or I that pays very close attention to their surroundings and I'll take my chances that those guys are good natured fellas that probably carry as well. If it's a bad guy and he notices maybe he will consider robbing some other joint. Most people either wont see the grip printing through your tshirt or will think that bulge in your pocket is a cell phone/keys etc.

Maybe we should start a CO AR15 Fitness thread and see how many rolls we can loose starting Jan 1st? Maybe a genorus vendor will give a discount or prize to a winner (or top 5).

I'm already having to compete for equipment, against the New Years Resolution crowd. Anyone in the Parker area that wants to meet up at the Lifetime Fitness around 5:30am, i'm more than willing to help you shed a few LBS.

I have shrunk many, if not most of my shirts over the years. I didn't really notice, until I started carrying a gun. Whenever I make it out the door without realizing that my shirt is too small to be carrying, I just unzip my fly and try to draw attention else where.

I've got a hike out by Cotopaxi that we could drill you guys on!

goes from/to Five Points Rec. area to/from property I own in Copper Gulch area... about 5mi, but LOTS of vertical change up & down (either way)

it's through a BLM Wilderness Study Area, so no motors allowed, but you can carry (suggested, as it has the highest concentration of Mt. Lions in the state)

who wants to play drill Sgt to push the pace? [Coffee]

LOL, I've tried to shrink faster than my shirts, and have been mostly successful- but some are just too short, rather than too tight. I just switch to deep concealment in that case- I think if I left my fly unzipped, it would lead to a whole new set of problems, culminating in divorce.. [ROFL1]

and then I wake up, and realize I'm a 40-year old has-been (or never-was)... nobody wants to see it, touch it, etc... including my wife :-(

the only part not free would be if someone wants to park at the 5 points Rec. area (it's a state park, so there's like a $7/day per vehicle fee, & $16 for a camp site overnight)- or you could camp on my land for free! oh, and the gas to get down here...
you guys in the 'metro' need to get out to the woods now an then... [Coffee]

Someone might be able to distort it into "menacing" or some other vague law.

At the very least it might get you police attention, and if you don't have a CCW....well I guess you get a slap on the wrist. But its still illegal.

I don't really care if I print or not. as long as it is covered it is concealed. that print could be a phone case as easy as it could be a gun.

this time of year I always have a jacket or sweatshirt and you can't tell.

In the summer when I wear just a t-shirt it makes it a little tough.

OneGuy67

No, its not. When that does happen and a couple of cops see it, it opens you up to being contacted, having your CCW permit inspected and if you didn't have one, arrested for illegally concealing a firearm on your person.

We made an assessment of the person and decided to not further investigate. Whether he was a CCW holder or a newbie cop or someone illegally concealing a weapon, I don't know.

As with most things in law enforcement, it is a discretionary action event.

I made an assumption that the person might be here on the forum, given there are a number of people here who list Highlands Ranch as their home and others who live close by from here.

it certainly developed into a topic of discussion for me and my buddy as well as here.
