I will be up in Centenniel tomorrow on Yosemite Ct - by Yosemite St. and could have sworn that there was a firearms store or tactical gear place located right by there (??Shares a building with OutsourceIT maybe?).

Anyone have any ideas of what's in this neighborhood - firearms wise?

Bower's is on Yosemite-south of Arapahoe isn't it ? That may be the one your thinking of.

Yup! That's the one. Just googled them and followed their Mapquest link and low and behold there are almost right across the sctreet from where I'll be tomorrow.

I plan to spend the night up there - hopefully someplace close. Anyone know of a decent hotel (nothing fancy, just safe and clean) nearby?

That's the tech center so there's plenty of places to stay. I don't know of any in particular.

Stay away from the Motel 6 and the La Quinta next door at Arapahoe & I-25. From personal experience, too many criminal elements hanging out there. Go to the La Quinta south of Arapahoe on Clinton if you need to be nearby. There are a number of 'suite' style hotels near the south La Quinta as well that are decent.

If I was still living on my own I would say you could crash at my place, but seeing how my wife thinks meeting people on forums is weird...you're out of luck. lol...:( sorry dude.

Bowers is awesome and so is Mike. I will support them from this day forth..

Thanks for the thought/desire to offer me a place, but since I'll be taking a certification test for my job tomorrow I plan to lock myself away from distractions and study some more. Couple this with the bad weather that the news is predicting and it just made sense for me to go up this afternoon, find the place and spend the night studying - avoiding having to make the dirive tomorrow morning.

I've always been a horrible test taker and never feel prepared. Since my job sort of relies on this certification, I really need to do well and am going to give myself every chance to succeed.

There is a Marriott Courtyard just on the north side of Arapahoe on Yosemite. I'm not sure how much that runs but its very close. There are a few good places to get food right there too if you need it (Chipotle, Jimmy Johns, Garbanzo's, Sunflower Market, etc.)

Ginsue- Good Luck on your test!
I used to be horrible at test taking because I would go over the questions again and then second guess myself.
Once I got rid of that habit my scores improved substantially.
Trust your gut!

good luck on the test man. my theory on tests is...break it down and find the top two answers. Then from there choose the first answer in the sequence of events...lol. :)

Is it the building next to Safeway corporate there right as Yosemite makes the bend south of Arapahoe?

Ah, dog gone it, I left before seeing your post and didn't get online last night (was studying some more). I expect that I'll have other occasions to come up to your neck of the woods - where I can pre-announce it a bit further ahead - and we can do lunch then.

You know, that's exactly what I did too!

Yup; that's the one. Literally right across the street from Bowers Tactical.

Soooo.... while I didn't do as well as I would have liked to, when it comes down to it, it was a PASS/FAIL deal, and I PASSED!!!!!!!!!

I am now CompTIA Security+ certified FOR LIFE (any CompTIA certifications earned after Jan 1, 2011 are only good for 3 years). Plus, I was told Tuesday that this was recently made a requirement for my position on the contract and I had to have the cert by Jan 1 to be in compliance with the contract. If I wasn't certified by that point it was cause for possible "dismissal" (firing).

As it was, I was told that I got the LAST testing slot in Colorado for this year. Talk about cutting it close.

But, the pressure is now off, so as soon as I was told I passed, I went over to Bowers and "celebrated" by buying a few things. I had to keep from getting everything I wanted (or even most of what I wanted) to ensure my wife didn't threaten me with maiming or killing, but I picked up a few things.

While I wish I had known sooner about the lunch offer and really regret not being able to meet MB888, it was still a fantastic day.

Being the little shit that I am, I called work after getting my "PASS" results and in the most somber tone left a voicemail for a coworker asking if she'd research for me what it costs to get a retest (I NEVER said I failed, but it was certainly implied). I called back about an hour later and told her I passed. There were several people gathered in her cubicle (including my bosses boss) discussing how aweful it was that I had failed. Once they found out I actually passed the bosses boss called me a douchebag. Yeah, I earned it. But it was still fun to do to them. [Muaha]

I don't return to work until Monday. I wonder what surprises they'll have in store for me for payback?

Yeah, I did my A+ Certification there back in May :)

Since it won't be until after the first of Jan, 2011, it'll only be good for 3 years, but I plan to pursue my A+ cert next. I understand that A+ has a particularly rigorous testing process. It looks like I'll need to STUDY hard and long before pursuing the testing.

A+ after Security+ seems backwards, no?

Hoopty
12-17-2010, 18:12
I agree, A+ is about as basic a cert as they come??? Damn, I didn't know those certs will expire if taken in 2011+. I guess I'm Net+ and Convergence + for life. [Tooth]

A+ after Security+ seems backwards, no?

Well, when I took the bootcamp Security + training class they said the the class was predicated on the assumption that you were already certified in either A+ or Network+. I'm neither.

I've been begging my company for ANY training since I started (I was promised coming in the door that they'd send me to Solaris 10 training; never happened). I've specifically informed them that the duties they have me doing require that I get A+ certified (USAF requirement). I was offered CBT's (which sucked) and told I needed to take responsibility for acquiring my own training.

Then, the company that has the contract for providing (all DoD forms...physical, IA, COMSEC, industrial, etc.) had this deal come up to get Security+ training for a very low price and asked my company if we wanted to get in on it (informing them that it was expected to be a requirement for IT folks SOON). My company accepted and I got my request to be in on it first thing. FINALLY!

So yes, it was the backwards way of approaching the training/certification, but it certainly worked for me.
