View Full Version : XD paint removal help
My XD was originally olive drab i bought it used and it was rattled canned black.
And the stainless slide was dura coated
The paint and duracoat started chipping and it started getting pretty ugly.
I removed the dura coat from the slide when i forst got it, and this weekend started pulling off the paint with a razor blade. I have most of it off but the front rail and above the grip safety I was curious if there was anyway to remove the rest of the paint with out melting the frame.
thanks in advance guys

I would try some lacquer thinner and a stiff bristle brush. It should not hurt the polymer but you might try it in say the magwell first.
If that does not work there are paint strippers that are plastic safe, EZ Strip comes to mind.
Or if you want I can always low pressure beadblast the frame for you.

Thanks for the offer I might take you up on that. I will try the EZ strip first. I know that I cleaned a glock with a buddy and I forget what gun cleaning solvent we used but it the frame was sticky for a little while afterward.
An update on this I bought a plastic safe paint stripper at Home Depot and went to work it turned out quite well. I would say 99% of the paint is off just some crevices to finish it up. thanks BPtactical.
side note I came home with a XD .45 compact with the 5 inch barrel I have twins now!
