There's an ad up on cologunmarket for one of these Chiappa Rhino Revolvers (http://chiappafirearms.com/product/725). I'd never seen one before and thought it was kind of neat looking. I guess it's not a new idea but rather something that has never really caught on in the revolver world. I wouldn't mind checking one out someday. Has anyone here ever had the opportunity to play with one?

Interesting,, I'm sure somewhere out there, is the question that this answers..

It almost looks like every screwball idea that has ever been on a revolver and, for some reason or another, didn't make it, all finally ended up in one place..

Haven't handled one in person, most of the online reviews seem to say "we're pleasantly surprised at how nice the recoil is, and how accurate it is."

Designed by the same guy you brought you the Mateba Auto Revolver apparently. And I'd love one of them...

either way ya look at it, I think they are ugly as fuck!

What exactly are all the "features"? Looks like it fires from the bottom and has an unusually high grip, to create a very low bore axis. Anything else?

The cylinder has flats on it for an more comfortable CCW.

I agree Van. It's crazy ugly which for some reason makes it attractive to me. I'd hit it . . .

I noticed the flat cylinder, but wasn't sure why. I was thinking that it would give it a slightly less...rotund profile at the very least. I like it.

For anyone interested in the Rhino, I listened to gunsmith Grant Cunningham talk about it on the ProArms podcast. He did a series of blog posts about how it works, impressions, shooting, etc. This should answer any questions you have:

So I got to play with a Rhino in the gun shop today. Just handling, no shooting. Definitely different, although it was incredibly comfortable to hold and aim. I like it.... my mrs's wants one in the 4" version when it's finally released even.

I really really want one ... haven't decided whether I want the snubby or a 4" one (although I hear that they're showing a 3" at SHOT so maybe that would be the perfect alternative).

If it shoots half as well as a Mateba it'll be worth it (a friend of mine has a Mateba Unica 6 and its hands down the most accurate wheelgun I've ever shot).

Do you have experience with one? Just curious.

With a Rhino? No. I guess that was a little presumptive, but assuming it shot as well as people say, its probably the only revolver I'm interested in owning.

I've shot my uncle's police issued S&W and didn't really care for it compared to any other auto that I've shot.

Got to shoot one recently.
The goods, very accurate, comes up to target faster with noticably less muzzle rise when compared to an equal length S&W 686 using same ammo.
I loved the Mateba and now their worth an arm and a leg.
The bads, trigger heavier then a stock 686 (single action not bad). No speed loaders or anything else for that matter available. (also, a little on the high priced side)
If peripheral equipment was available and i could figure out a trigger job, i'd buy one and shoot it in USPSA revolver class.

Apparently they're aware of the trigger issue, and there's a second generation trigger assembly that may be out by now. Newer ones will of course have it, but supposedly it's a replacement part for the first generation rhinos. Not sure if it's user installable or if its a ship it back for replacement deal though.

I just got back from the shot show and I fondled one at the Chiappa booth. I don't know how they recoil or shoot. But, their trigger pull stinks.

I like to shoot a revolver DA, and it can be done, w/a S&W or Ruger at 50 yards, my guess is that w/that Chiappa that it can't be done at 10 yards.

I suppose the SA trigger pull was OK, but what revolver's isn't?

Nobody shall ever call my Savage rifles ugly again[Shake]
Or the FNAR....for that matter

Savage rifles are still ugly. The Rhino is just ugly-er.

Having said that, I like my Savage Tactical just fine. Form following function...

I like the way it looks, somewhat futuristic and a little ugly but in a good way, like a M14 EBR.

Apparently any speed loader that will work with a S&W L frame will work. Also the 2"ers ship with leather and they sell holsters on Chiappa's site.

If peripheral equipment was available and i could figure out a trigger job, i'd buy one and shoot it in USPSA revolver class.
Also have trigger upgrade kits available on their site too.

Just picked up a Chiappa Rhino DS50 5" model over at the Firing Line. I too had been very curious about how it felt...

The guys over at the Firing Line had not fired one either. So, I told them once the paperwork was done, they were welcome to shoot it.

3 of them took me up on my offer.

Now I'm not a revolver guy. Not real familiar with them but again, this one intrigued me. Going in, I knew it was a big risk never having talked to anyone that had one or fired one. I figured if it sucked bad, I'd just take it to the Gunshow and take a slight loss on it.

We shot .357 Magnum rounds through it and .38 Super. WOW.... with the .357, some muzzle flip, but way less than I imagined. The .38 super was like shooting a light load 9mm.

All 3 of the guys there absolutely loved it. These guys were SUPER accurate with it at various distances...

I really like it and feel I got my money's worth. I have ZERO complaints and highly recommend it.

If you want experts opinions, talk to the guys at The Firing Line.

Look up the Mateba auto revolver on Youtube, and you will see were this came from. the rhino is desighned by the same person. I just purchased 2 60ds rhinos off of gunbroker for my brohters birthday.

If you want a second brother my birthday is on Tuesday [Tooth] I could not pass it up 1500 for 2 guns with consecutive serial nubers NIB. He was very happy.

I too, am intrigued by the Chiappa's 6 o'clock design. And I like ugly ass guns (easier to pistol whip with,ha-ha). What I want to know is, how long does the trajectory hug line of sight when elevation is doped beyond 50yrds compared to traditional 12 o'clock barrels? I know through experience the majority of hi-po rifles' trajectories hug closer to line of sight further with 2 1/2"-3" between barrel and optic bores, than say 1 1/2". So I'm wondering if the increased distance between sights and barrel of Chiappa's abortion does the same. If so, it would make a hell of a good 50-100yrd wild pig cannon (in states that allow handgun hunting). AR ART, you have homework.

The Rhino has a very low bore axis it has alot less muzzle flip than a 357 with the barrel in the 12 oclock position, in trade for the less muzzle flip with a hot 357 load it will definitely let you know it is a 357 with the felt recoil, but you get faster follow up shots and I think it is a cool looking gun.
