I am in the same boat you are in with the barrel swap. I decided to break down and just buy the tools so I am willing to help you out. The only thing is I probally won't be able to do it until after Christmas. I am in Littleton by the way. Also something to think about once you have the barrel off and provided you have a full 16" barrel, you can take it to a smith and have it cut down to 14.5" and then have a permanently attached flash hider installed on it like a phantom or a vortex. That is what I think I will be doing with my M4 barrel. CHeaper than buying a new barrel. Let me know...

Why do you want to cut your 16" to 14.5"? :?

Kwando... Did you get your barrel changed? If not, I have the tools and a vice I can mount to my jeep and we can do it at the 3-11 shoot.

Barrel change is very easy. Just remove the hand guards and gas tube. Get your armorers tool and remove the barrel nut, just pull the barrel off.

What about checking headspace? I have not seen any mention of that. Is it important? I am considering changing barrels on mine. I have a 20" stainless bull w/1:8 twist, but I think I would rather have a 16" since I now have a long gun.

The last two uppers I assembled I didnt check the head spacing. Only because I dont have the gauges and they are expensive.(That is the next piece in my tool box)

If you are using quality parts you should be ok, but I would still recommend it.
