View Full Version : Insurance Rant
Have another kid on the way, and I don't know what the fuck is going on, but I keep getting some serious bills from regular visits. My first daughter cost me under a 1k out of pocket expenses and everything, that included a c-section. This one is only 3 months along, and I am already out of pocket approx $750, and just opend a bill for just shy of $2300 bucks[Bang] I don't get this shit. I know the insurance coverage went down, but this is fucking crazy. All the money I pay out of my check every week that goes to illeagals having kids for free and what not, and I got to deal with this shit.[Rant1] Rant Off

Check your policy and see what the coverage is really supposed to be for what was done. We've had to fight after being incorrectly billed, and it's happened often enough that I'm reasonably sure that they do it by design. They make more that way, and it's a pain to fight it. We've saved hundreds and in at least one case thousands by making sure we know what the coverage is supposed to be and calling them on it when the billed amounts are wrong. (No, not Geico!)[Bang]

What he said^.
Must be a deductible of 2500 or 5000 per person or family?
We never got sick, made a change in our insurance about 10 years ago to save some money, and I had a stroke and radiation treatment that cost us a crap load of money.
Keep on them too, if you don't check every bill and your policy and what it pays, they will rip you off. My wife is always catching errors in their billing or what is covered. Even when you pay them, they still call asking for payment of the thing you just paid.

I had a motorcycle wreck back in 2000 that required an ambulance ride to the local Trauma Center.
Two months after the wreck I started getting nasty calls and letters from the ambulance company about wanting payment. I called my insurance company and pressured them to get it paid. they told me (time & again) that they'd paid it.
After about 3 months of this and getting threats of legal action, and leins on my home and income, I finally got it resolved when I did a 3 way call with both parties. That's when the insurance company finally fessed up to not having made the payment and worked out hte details for payment while we were all on the phone. REALLY pissed me off that I had to go through all of that just to get them to pay the dang thing.

They'll make "mistakes"... they're only human, after all...
my 1st born child cost us $10...
the insurance we had was AWESOME! wife worked for a company called "Insurance Technologies" they wrote software for the ins. industry.. so they negotiated a great agreement...
Then my wife quit 3 months after she was born... ok, we're down to 1 income, and I've got to switch to my employer for insurance...
2nd born was around $200... ok, I can deal with that...
Insurance rates started going up (long story, part industry, part company issues), I did the math and figured out that 1 person can hit their deductible and significant costs, and it's around the same cost as the next "tier" of insurance, so I take the low cost option...
3rd born (my son) was $2000 (max out-of-pocket for 1 person) plus some minor expenses for my son that were covered 90% or 100% (he was very healthy, all preventative care)
we had our 2nd born diagnosed with a PDA valve issue in her heart- needed a "procedure" to correct it... once again, we hit the $2000 max-out-of-pocket for 1 person... there have been a couple years when I didn't hit it, so we're ahead... it's around $1500 diff in premiums now between the high and low plans, but the max-out of pocket is $500 on the high-tier plan
