I built the motor myself (first engine build evar!) over Christmas break last year and have been bolting parts on since then. I did the engine swap over Thanksgiving break and am still finishing it up, but all I need to do is have a cat welded in and I should be good to go. The car ran 22.1 @ 64mph before the five-speed swap, and 20.0's @ 68mph all last summer - I'm hoping for solid 14's this year.

This is what it looks like after a maroon S10 4x4 rear-ended me as I was stopping for a yellow light yesterday afternoon. I got shoved all the way into the middle of the intersection, and watched dazedly as the ******* sped away. Didn't get a tag #.

It's at a body guy's shop right now, I'll see what happens. I've owned this car since February 2002, learned everything I know about cars on it, and the new motor that I put in over Thanksgiving break has no more than 60 miles on it as of today. In other words, HUGE emotional attachment. I was on my way to get exhaust put on it. Guess that'll have to wait. :(

I cried today for the first time in years. :(

The truck that hit me looks identical to this one, except maroon instead of bright red:

If anyone sees a truck like this with fairly heavy (I hope) front end damage and some red paint transfer, PLEASE shoot the SOB. Or at least call the cops on him. ;) There is a police report, so I hope they'll follow up leads. Last I saw him, he was hauling ass eastbound on Evans from Broadway.

Anyone know how to get in touch with the detective division of Denver PD? I'd like to talk to the individual handling this case and put just enough pressure on so my case doesn't get shunted into the corner.

what were you thinking? no one it colorado uses turn signals or stops at yellow lights, or red ones for that matter. you caught him offguard  on a lighter note I hope they catch the looser. more than likley he did not have insurance, a license, or warrants for not paying his last 17 tickets, or quite possibly immigration status.

Wonder if it could possibly be tied to the increasing number of immigrants from a certain region of the world.....

My neck hurts like a mofo, btw. :( Whiplash evidently isn't as bogus as most people make it out to be.

Sorry to hear about the loss man, that really, really sucks. I hope they find the guy, get your car fixed for free, and charge him with hit and run.

I know it is difficult for you to do right now, but try to look on the bright side; You are alive, you didn't get seriously injured and you are not disabled. You were not riding a motorcycle, you weren't killed. Try to smile and thank god that the situation didn't turn out worse, and that you are around for your family to enjoy during Christmas. That right there is something to smile about.

I got T-boned by a Cadillac many moons ago. Whiplash is very real. :( Fortunately, it isn't permanent. I sure hope they catch the jackass before he kills somebody.

Sorry about what happend but it does not surprise me. In front of my shop there is at least two accidents a week and 99% of the time both parties run. In the other 1% just one of them runs.

Colorado has the highest uninsured motorist rate in the country.

Me too. I'd like the pleasure of beating him to death with a blunt object.

I'm fine, not really an issue. First thought I had when I got hit, at least right after "you dirty motherfucker", was "oh man, how bad is the car hurt?". lol

Got a quarter panel, hatch, bumper, bumper cover....just need taillights and some patience/money and she oughta be fine. :)

You gonna fix it yourself or you having someone do it?

Asha'man
12-22-2005, 21:05
Having someone do it. I'm not much of a body guy to begin with, and swapping quarter panels is way beyond me. The guy who's got the car is supposed to be quite the wizard with bodywork, and pretty reasonable to boot, so we'll see how it goes.

Good luck!

Its not as tough as it sounds. Just time consuming.

If I get my scanner up and working I will post some picks of when I replaced the quarters on my mustang.

Sorry to hear about the smash-up.

Anyways, thats an unusual way to make power from a mustang. Most people just play with a 5.0.

I have thought about buying an SVO to play with. They seem like a very cheap way to play with big boost. Right now I run 19psi on my car (and would like to go to 25ish) but get afraid that I will really screw something up and it will cost a bunch.

Turbos are VERY difficult to run the 1/4 mile with. What I have found is you either spin or bog.

My thoughts of an SVO are but a distant dream. If I even THINK about another car, I may not live through it. The wife will tell me to be happy with what I have or get rid of something.

KC - that'd be great.

It's very unusual. I started out with the 4-cylinder car when I was 17 and just decided to do things differently. :)

I ran one of my buddies' SVO's at Bandi last year and went anywhere from 15.8 to 17.0 in the same night. Only made 2 or 3 runs since it was Club Clash, but I'd either bog it or spin (mostly bog).

You gotta throw some big boost numbers at the 2.3T; getting power out of an 8v iron head that flows like ass and was designed in the '70s takes some heavy breathing. ;) My buddy was running 25-30 psi from a Holset on his '84 Turbo GT before he wrecked it.

What d'you drive now?

Brian

My slow ride is a 944 Turbo. Makes about 300rwhp from a 8V 4-cylinder. I have run 14.5s@104 at Bandimere with it. I can't get enough traction. The mph is there, just don't have enough traction off the line. I am running an old school turbo on it and poor chips. With a little more tuning there is 40-50hp more there, I just run it really rich to avoid problems.

Also, the wife doesn't think I need to spend more money on it. I only get away with spending so much on a toy. She somehow thinks I have too many toys.

I tend to bounce from project to project so she gets tired of my playing around. Last project was a jeep.

Now the fast ride...

So hows it coming did you get her done yet?

Asha'man
01-11-2006, 19:08
Sadly no, I'm quite a ways away from that still. I need to obtain the police report so I can fax it to the ins. company so they can verify that the uninsured motorist coverage will cover this incident, and then we'll move from there with the total loss adjuster, $$, etc. The Denver PD is gay though, because even in this digital age, I have to send a SASE with $10 enclosed to get the damn police report.  So once that happens and I can fax it to the insurance company, then things should start moving again.

I dont know how denver does it but their reports probably are not electronic. And they have to print you off a copy of the report anyways they cant give you an electronic copy of it if it is electronic.

So did you find you some good quarters at least?

Asha'man
01-12-2006, 19:09
Still, one oughta be able to go down to the station and pick up the paper copy of the report. This SASE-wait-for-the-mail bullshit sucks.

Yeah, I got a good quarter from a Florida car, totally rust free. Got a bumper and a hatch, also good, and I already had a spare bumper cover. Just need taillights and $$$$$$ now.
